Some conservatives just CAN'T understand Trump...

Years ago, before I jumped ship from the S.S. Conservative, I used to browse the National Review's website. It's a conservative magazine, and the editors are actually quite entertaining at times. If you want to check it out, just go to nationalreview.com. I warn you though; the website is pretty clearly targeted at an older audience. The National Review no longer represents my ideological perspective, but I like to frequent hubs of all sorts of political alignments. The National Review is still special to me, though, but only as a source of entertainment. It has gone off the deep end. It's what you get when you cross conservative elitism with the Never Trump movement, and then sprinkle in a healthy dose of old age. Take my link for example. To the Review, Cruz was an indicator of the Second Coming. I laughed whenever the magazine used the phrase, "Elect a true conservative." Now that Cruz has been metaphorically curb-stomped by Trump, the Review is asking for Romney to throw his hat in the ring. These people have completely lost touch with their own base. If they think conservatives are electing Trump because he 100% represents their interests, they're dead wrong. Trump is a pressurized bomb. That pressure comes from years of right-wing exasperation. They're sick of being called racist. They're sick of being called sexist. They're sick of perceived media bias and corruption. Not only that, but Trump is an "ideological strongman." The Supreme Court has made it clear that they will no longer protect minority rights against majority rule. Now the only way to defend yourself politically is to elect a representative strongman to a majority-selected office. It's not about playing ball with Congress and the Court anymore. The Obama administration solidified the notion that those branches sit behind the executive branch. TL;DR - A large number of conservatives still fail to grasp the reason why so many of their compatriots are backing Trump. It isn't about policy. It's about letting loose the unchecked power of the executive branch and hoping that you receive as little collateral damage as possible. I encourage anyone interested in topics like this to join the group Liberty Hub.
