Bernie Is No Radical, YOU Are

http://www.raisetheminimumwage.com/pages/polling http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/campaign-ads/264087-poll-majority-want-corporate-money-out-of-politics http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/poll-most-support-making-college-free/article/2572333 http://www.gallup.com/poll/186260/back-legal-marijuana.aspx http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2015/2/23/poll-most-americans-support-raising-investment-taxes-for-wealthy.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care_in_Canada Bernie Sanders has a reputation in the United States as a "extreme leftist," and an idealist politician. However, this is simply not true, and the evidence is right in front of us. Not only are Sanders' policies mainstream and moderate by international standards, but the majority of the American people are actually on board with most of these ideas. 1. 63% of Americans support raising the minimum wage to at $15.00 by 2020 2. A majority (70-80% believe in reducing or removing corporate money from politics 3. 62% support free tuition 4. 58% support the legalization of recreational marijuana 5. And 68% support raising corporate taxes. When it comes to my first point: The U.S. is one of the only developed nations without a universal healthcare system. My home country of Canada, has had a universal healthcare system since 1968, and it has worked just fine. As a person who struggles with mental illness, I don't think I would be alive today, if my parents had to pay out of their pockets for every hospital visit, every medication prescribed, and every therapist I've met. They would be broke and I would've killed myself long ago from guilt. This is a real issue in the U.S., where people are unable to get the medical help they need, because they can't afford it. No one should have to go through that. When it comes to affordable/universal tuition, there are over 30 developed countries that have this. Denmark, Germany, Ireland, France, Sweden and Morocco, just to name a few. Also in Ontario, Canada, the Provincial Liberal government will pass legislation in 2017 to provide free tuition for low income families. The Liberals in New Brunswick are also considering this as well. I could go on with examples of how mainstream Bernie's policies are but I will probably surpass the 10,000 character limit, so I'd like so end on this note. The reason why everyone thinks Bernie Sanders is so radical, is because America's Overton window (the range of ideas that people support) is so far to the right for so many things, that there is no real left-wing in America. Bernie Sanders would easily pass as a mainstream Liberal, maybe even a Conservative in the Netherlands! When Americans see a true progressive, they are frightened, because true progressivism (not corporate neoliberalism) is alien to them. It's important to understand that even though Bernie is going to lose this election, the war for $15, the war for free healthcare, and the war to make America truly great again, isn't over, it's only just beginning. TL;DR Bernie is a centrist by international political standards and Americans are crazy right-wingers that don't understand true liberal ideas. UPDATE: Found this on my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=860763885886&set=gm.913682105416224&type=3&theater https://www.facebook.com/OccupyDemocrats/photos/a.347907068635687.81180.346937065399354/1129978487095204/?type=3&theater A meme that proves Trump is a liar and hypocrite. Look up the info for yourself. 2000 doctors support Bernie's stances on Universal Healthcare https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/05/05/2000-doctors-say-bernie-sanders-has-the-right-approach-to-health-care/

  • He is working towards a completely new system of education and reworking taxation. Sounds pretty not-conservative to me. In fact, he wants complete change. Conservatives like the old ways, that's what it means.

    • Bernie wants equality for everything when in reality, somethings shouldn't be equal for everyone. The minimum wage shouldn't be raised, free tuition should be awarded for working hard. Life is a privilege and gets easier the harder you work. People go from rags to riches everyday because they drop the attitude and get to work. I'm not saying it's bad to help people out, but don't give people stuff they don't deserve. Teachers help you study for a test, they don't give you the answers. To succeed, you must work hard or deal with the cold hard life.

      • America actually conceptualizes freedom in economics, social policies, and trade; so when someone who wants to impose limitations on that is running for office, of course it's radical. It's a geopolitical issue, stop comparing countries who can't hold a candle to America.
It works in Denmark and other European countries
That's cool does Denmark and other European countries have the population, the wealth, the ethnic diversity, and same resources that America has? No? Then I guess applicability is irrelevant. If it isn't irrelevant then I'll apply Hong Kong and Singapore as two shining examples of successful implementation of free market capitalism.

I didn't read through most of this because laziness but what I got was that you believe he is not radical because he has supporters. You mentioned specific points that I can't go check to explain exactly why were radical. Radical is a major change that would be hard to achieve. You said that other countries have free tuition and are fully developed making free tuition simple. Well the fact is it isn't because the US is capitalist and without money the college's can't do anything unless the government who is already drowning in debt took control of that kind of situation. It's very complicated and not just simple to do. It can be done but most likely not in his term (s). His ideas are radical whether he has supporters or not Not hating on Bernie either.

                • Why do Bernie supporters continue to say "socialism works in other countries it could work here". No it couldn't. We have 318 million people. You want to raise minimum wage to $15? Not all businesses can afford that. So let's say you get your $15 an hour. You know what also comes with that? Taxes at 40-50% and millions of workers laid off. So even more would rely on health care. The more government control you want in your life the more freedom you're going to give up. Ask the USSR.

                    • I'm going to say this before the people in this post drive me to -blam!-ing shoot myself. Bernie Sanders, and anyone like him would ruin this country more than it already has been by these -blam!-ing idiots who call themselves leaders of our country. Most of you who call yourselves "Social Democrats" or otherwise have probably never heard the term before Bernie labeled himself as such. He talks of free this and giving more money and of course everyone jumps on the Big Bernie Bandwagon so they can say they know what's best for America. Well guess what, none of you do. When the Democratic Party was created, is when this country went to shit. Republicans eventually followed suit and became a bunch of jerk offs themselves. Our government as a whole -blam!-ing sucks and all you people can see is what you'll be given. Eventually we'll all be so controlled by the government that they'll be telling you how to butter your -blam!-ing bread. So you guys just keep on being the cancer that eats our country alive. When your system fails to fix anything, and believe me it will, I hope you think back to all the people on this goddamned post that tried to explain how -blam!-ed up your crackpot theories are.
