It's Iron Banner again, which means that once again, people who don't normally play PvP are trying to remember how. This also means- yes, you guessed it- someone is on the forum telling them that they're opening the heavy ammo crates too soon.
There's a certain etiquette involved in opening the crate when you're on a team. If you're the only one at the crate, and there's no red on your radar, DON'T OPEN THE DAMN CRATE. I can't put it more clearly than that. Wait for the rest of your team so they get some heavy ammo as well.
Obviously, it's a judgement call sometimes. There may be a red line at the edge of your screen... in that case, is your team closer than the enemy? Can you wait for them? Or do you have an enemy bearing down on you, lusting for your chitlins, so that you have to pop the crate or risk losing it to the other team?
But other times, there's no judgement to be made. It's a clear case of seeing that half of your team is still converging on the crate, knowing that the enemy is nowhere in sight, and just not caring.
Yes, there's an announcement when heavy ammo is inbound. But on many maps, that's still not a lot of time to get to the crate from wherever one happens to be, especially since there's actual fighting taking place. Not everyone arranges their game around the drop timer. Sometimes it's just bad luck. Whatever the case, delaying a second or two is not going to cost you the game, and having a few more players with heavy ammo might actually affect the outcome. Many a loss has turned into a win, and vice-versa, based on some heavy kills at the right time.
Think about it next time you're tempted to open that crate all by yourself.

Lol.. "... lusting for your chitlins."
-
I always grab it as soon as I can, I then run to the closest edge and jump off
-
Yeah, I made a post like this awhile back and got nothing but negative comments. Apparently I should just hang out around the heavy ammo all match long. With that said , I agree with you. I wait as long as I can.
-
I agree completely! Thank you for encouraging this fantastic behavior! My rocket launcher is easy to aim when I'm outside of radar range, and I love seeing those 3-4 kills I can get from ppl who demand everyone wait for them instead of getting there in time. :D
-
I tried waiting Almost got killed in the process Fact is that heavy zones are dangerous to be around because ppl with charged supers like to converge there
-
Any advice for the ammo crate in strike playlists? I've never been able to figure it out there.
lusting for your chitlins
I always wait just around the corner and then take out my uncharged sword and as the enemy runs up to get it I run out and smack them twice with my hilt and kill 'em. Then I take the heavy for myself. For some reason the enemy team gets mad at me after that and they try to hunt me down. It's not very nice :(

I want to bump this forever. Trying to get heavy kills for the bounty with only 1 crate a match can cause some serious rage when the ass holes on your team take the crate early. I can't tell you how many times I've been within sight of the crate and my jackass teammate just takes it so I get nothing. I get joy from watching them get killed before they can use it.
-
-blam!- that, be at the box or i'm popping in before some warlock void bombs the lot of us from across the map - if you want heavy, be at the -blam!-ing box when it pops.
-
I always wait too long and get Nova Bombed all to hell.
-
When I use void walker I do a sac fly and nova bomb the opposing teams heavy, if my whole team has heavy and theirs has none, it can create a nice little lead (*theoretically)
-
I intentionally pay attention to the timers as I run past and make call out's to my team if in a party. I grab every special ammo crate along the way even if I don't need it. Starving the other team for shotgun/sniper ammo is a beautiful thing.
-
Same for the special ammo, although it lasts a bit longer after someone picks it up. These people don't know what is going on.
-
All situational and how you play to aid your team. If there is time to wait and I notice my team coming I will guard and will give my life for them to freely get heavy. ON the flip side, if the enemy is coming and its just me and other, I'm screaming pull it screw it pull it, why cause we don't have time to wait for our team and we potentially giving more heavy to the opponents. Conclusion: there is a time and place for everything, time is a warrior's tool those who know how to use time and make quick decisions to make plays wins the game...
-
Some maps just don't work with etiquette. Too many maps have open sniper lanes. Sitting in the open waiting on teammates isn't the best option
-
I don't get heavy ammo very often, as I always keep a bit of distance to the crates. Just remembering too many incoming Nova bombs ;-)
-
Bumb. 1) Depending on ammo crate cover, when alone waiting for teammates, I'll wait until I take on an enemy rusher, when I know my teammates are on their way. Confident I can defend the crate, if not, nick em up enough to make them easy pickings. 2) When rushing enemy crate, I'll do my best to take them out, or grab it quickly in order to deny them. 1a) Getting Heavy distribution throughout my team gives us an advantage. 2a) Taking "enemy" crate, depriving them of heavy, puts them at an disadvantage.

Edited by DaJuan Hoonoks: 4/27/2016 8:12:20 PMI agree, we had this one blueberry who was the 6th because we only have 5 and this jack off was grabbing heavy while we were guarding the entrances just enough distance away for the brick not to be there when heavy was available. Obviously if the enemy is bearing down on you, take it. But if not how does it feel to be on a team with 1 guy with heavy going up against another team full of heavy potentially.

Edited by Crota The Cruel: 4/27/2016 7:05:31 PMWhat i always do in Iron Banner is if i was by myself near a beautiful purple crate then I PICK THAT SHIT UP. As soon as my teammates arrive they look me in the eye while i kill myself with my own rocket. Lol the amount of hate messages i get its hilarious

And then the same people, who are taking heavy for themselves, blaming teammates for losing a match.
