But ammo drops don't matter in the raid, when you stand in one spot doing huge amounts of damage, no time to pick up ammo then

Alternative weapons: There is always a way. Just because it is not as easy as it was, doesn't mean it is no longer doable. I can see No Time To Explain and Sleeper Simulant shining in these situations.
