The only problem with the firebolt is the burn. When burning, you are being damaged over an extended period of time, even if it is only for 157 damage. You cannot recover health and would be disadvantaged in a gun fight.

I think it works be fine if they reduced the time between ticks by ~50% to allow a quicker recovery after being hit

Yeah, they can keep the damage but make the burn end quicker
