From what I have gathered by reading the comments below ppl are torn between. 1. There is no real connection because it is a causal treasure hunt not some hardcore dragon slaying. 2. Higher score = better skill due to more time spent playing game therefore overall better player. What OP, and some of you here are not understanding is the human element. Let me start off by saying you can gain a huge chunk of grim by hunting ghosts/frags and some dlc VIPs which can be done in less than a week mind you. Weapon kills can be farmed, as will as enemy's. Do some ttk content and boom you got +4000 probably. I don't do PvP much and I got 4400. I have done kings fall and other raids and guess what? I am human. I can still -blam!- up and you people need to learn that. A +4600 is not Jesus Christ, that person has the same chance of -blam!-ing up as the next guy with a lower score that has done the raid +10 times since the encounter is like riding a bike. Grim is nice an all but that shit is a paperweight because what really covers your ass in an encounter is Gear. What weapon and armor load out you have at the time and place can either synergize with teams or ensures you own survival. In crota hard if you didn't have a helm that restores health by orb or red death you were -blam!-ed. Bottom line. TL;DR: Humans can perform either under or exceed your expectations so observation is key. Grim is not a reliable indicator in terms of skill in higher scores as the nature of it is exploitative. Gear makes the guardian survive so judge that with the highest scrutiny.
if you gate ppl off like OP please do some community service and help noobs because if this becomes a trend new players will not learn the encounter at all.
• Wait a minute, you know how easy it is to get to 315 right? That person could easily be carried through the raid. I never judge people off what gear they have. And I shouldn't tell someone what to use because they know there character best. Every time I am on my warlock a new person would ask why am I not using self res. I don't use self res I love Stormcaller, I make so many orbs and it's so easy not to die.

  • Like I said observation is key, if you must absolutely size up a player it should be. 1. How they perform as opposed to grim/light. 2. How prepared they are for the fight. And what's this about stormcaller and self rez? I'm not bashing a classes, bungle gave players a utility to use and you use it just try your best and have fun.

Yeah but from my experience, not very skillful people try to force you to use a certain sub class or weapon. I don't always use BS and ToM. You know 1000 yard state and SS gets the job done better. I don't have time to test every player on LFG. I rather go with the odds and just more players with higher Grimoire are better.

  •
Yeah but from my experience, not very skillful people try to force you to use a certain sub class or weapon.
I have never ran into this type of situation nor do I condone it. That person is rather unsavory if they force you to do something outside of the grounds of inhibiting progress with adequate evidence. You may have misinterpreted my meaning, I did not know why you touched up on the subclasses to be clear. I am saying there is nothing wrong with using the utilities the sub-classes offer whether it be storm or sun or void and void being my preference.
I don't always use BS and ToM. You know 1000 yard state and SS gets the job done better.
If that weapon performs within the raid and insures you play your role effectively then you are fine, I never said any concrete in stone tablet commandment list of weapons. Try you best and have fun is the motto. Also this proves that perpetration is important BTW.
I don't have time to test every player on LFG. I rather go with the odds and just more players with higher Grimoire are better.
When a player enters your fire team and drops in the encounter the test begins. If they under perform that person is either kicked or the party collapses (everyone leaves). You and the party scrutinize the performance of others to ensure a good run and or cut your losses, this is simply how brains operate and there is no getting around it. You do it automatically like breathing. Listen, I am by no means bashing your current party requirement method. However your claim that Grim = Ability does not hold against someone whom never bothered to pick up Ghosts/Frags and achieve a lower score and still perform in the raid and various PvE encounters.

  • I know it doesn't go for those people. That's why I said not all low Grimoire players are bad. I wrote that in bold at the beginning. I don't have time to test people. Like you said that one person could ruin the whole fireteam. I've been doing this Grimoire requirement for quite some time now and it has worked wonders. That's why overall I can say 95% of high Grimoire players are good.

  • Lets leave this on a good note. You sample sized players of similar rank and file and that lead to good results and that is fine. You are pressed for time in such a way that you can't assess your team mid battle or Pre-encounter, we are busy people in the real world so you rely on the assurance of a high Grim. You had good results with the exclusive +4600 and deem most high Grims to be fine. I think me and some other posters need an important piece of info nudged into your post and that is what Grim score you consider to be high or up to snuff? And instead of stating high Grims are generally better than the rest across the board, high Grims can possibly equate to being more experienced and familiar of the game in how the various systems and encounters within destiny operate. As we all know some of those cards are time sinks and could require a large amount of time to complete. Not a pure unadulterated skill indicator.

  •
Not a pure unadulterated skill indicator.
I still never said it was a pure unadulterated skill indicator, thats why I left the 95% in there, I can't speak for everyone and I also know that there are those people with high Grimoire that are just complete trash.
And instead of stating high Grims are generally better than the rest across the board, high Grims can possibly equate to being more experienced and familiar of the game in how the various systems and encounters within destiny operate.
That is just the long way of saying skillful.

It's that so? Apologies as the message wasn't clear enough for me. I just wanted to confirm some things. I enjoyed the conversation.
