Uhh... What? I've seen plenty of Sunbreakers that can be competitive. It's basically golden gun but your "bullets" are not instant, so you have added defense as a result plus you can roll cauterize and basically eat a lot shots. If you died while in that super, it's because you're lacking skill, not because the subclass is underpowered.
