Honestly I lost hope a long time ago, but back when I was a waitress (about 5 years ago) I met so many amazing people! I have a lot of things, I'll try to narrow It down though. These might be stupid for others, but they definitely gave me a different view. *beware of spoiler*
I remember one time, these military guys came in for lunch, a girl came up and asked if she could pay for their meal, I said sure. She told me her dad passed and when she sees someone in there uniform it reminds them of him. She asked me to keep it anonymous and I promised I would. When they came up to pay, the look on their face was amazing. There was another time when these two girls (sister's) came to eat. One was rude the whole time, after they ate the nice sister came up to me and apologized. I told her it wasn't a big deal, she then explained to me that their mom had just passed & her sister was having a hard time. We talked for a bit and it was one of the best conversations I've had with someone. She told me what she'd been through & I asked how she stayed so positive. She just responded, "that's just life," I've never forgotten those words. After that conversation, it helped me overcome a lot of things. Another was from an elderly couple, he ordered his food and told me they had just come back from a trip across the country. They sold their home and bought a RV so they could accomplish their dream of travelling. He asked me if I wanted to see the picture, which of course I said yes. Seeing him talk about how happy he was & how he enjoyed doing this with his wife just made me happy. Ok last one promise. I never give money to homeless people, I usually buy food and eat with them. This particular time, I bought this guy food & coffee and he began telling me what he'd been through. Its definitely an eye opener hearing the struggles these people go through & how they lost it all. After we finished he told me that not many people would do this with him & that he knew I would get far in life. It definitely have me the push I needed at that point in my life. Those 2 hours I spent with him talking, were one of the best conversations I've had with someone. The only regret I have is not being able to find him to offer him to work for me, I pass through there everyday hoping to see him, but no luck.
• Anyone can be like that though. I know I can. But a lot of people wouldn't do what you did with that homeless man. You went above and beyond what most people would be willing to do, so I'll stand by what I said. You're basically just working on being more awesome :).
What made you lose hope?
• Well you're sweet, thank you <3 Idk, I wouldn't say it's just one thing. The way i see how people are now it's just upsetting. Everyone's to into social media, they care more about how many likes they get or how "famous" they are. I was born in the 90s, that's when technology was advancing. Its hard to see what kids that are 9 are doing compared to what I did. Not only that, but the political correctness is getting out of control. Everyone's overly sensitive & I don't feel like I can really say anything without someone throwing a crying fit. Things have really gone down hill & it kinda sucks

I feel the same way you do. I was also born in the 90s ('94), although don't necessarily remember them XD. Social media, as great as it is for communication, especially for people you don't see often (or ever), it also gives kids the wrong idea of what's important in a lot of ways. One of the things that really bothers me nowadays is seeing little kids (as young as 4!) with their own phones or tablets. What happened to playing with toys and playing outside? And I'm totally with you on the political correctness thing. I'm all for being sensitive, but when we take it to the point where feminists are trying to get the spelling of women changed to womyn so that it doesn't have the word men in it, things have gone way too far. And that's just one example. I agree that things have really gone downhill. It's actually kind of scary, because you wonder what things will be like down the road.

Right now I own my own business, I'm a truck driver. I've had a lot of jobs in the past though: waitress, Batista, chef assistant, game Stop employee, retail, receptionist, house cleaner, vet assistant & I thing my last one was a bank teller.

  • It was my favorite job, you meet a lot of people and it's pretty fun. I would not recommend retail though!

That story where you sat down with a homeless man. I'll try this one day when I walk around town.

  • Please do be careful, I live in a small city & the people here are usually kind. I however wouldn't do this with any homeless because some can be hostile. I've done this more than a few times and haven't run into a mean person before. You just gotta read their personality

  • Welp. I live in LA and when you see a homeless person you can easily read wether they are crazy or chill within a few seconds. But thanks for your inspiring story. I have someone in mind to do it with.

  • No problem, a lot of them need a little extra help, I've taken a guy before to get a job. I saw him a year later, he was no longer homeless, had a stable job and his own place. Honestly some of the nicest people, they've just had unfortunate things happen.
