Elitism a problem in destiny...
Recently i was called an elitist when doing a raid with an lfg team. When forming the team we had 5 318+ guardians and one of them suggested his lowly 309 friend to fill the last spot. Myself and another teammate showed our displeasure in having a low light character join us as we know for a fact that people who are 318+ are skilled and people below 310 are not.
Against our better judgement we let this player in. After 5 attempts on warpriest with the same 309 dying we finally passed it any moved on to golgoroth. There this player died alot. And then when i asked why are you dying all the time to him and that maybe you should raise your level to 315+ before doing a hard raid he snapped back at me you are an elitist.
I dont know why he called me an elitist. Maybe it was because i was staying alive and he was dying alot. Then he said that those requirements arent needed to beat hard mode and that is elitism because i have a higher light than him.
I am not an elitist but i do believe that one player is better than another based entirely on his gear. Its not my fault that he isnt skilled enoughto get to 315+.

Edit: we were wiping after the guy in the video missed grabbing the gaze causing most of the team to get wrecked.

Lower than 310 doesn't mean not skilled. I've had very few completions but I have take gaze and run relic on Orxy with the best of them. Time and luck are agisnt me.

He failed the first 3 times and then just jumped off of the side if he got it again. 3, higher light level doesn't make you better than everyone. I run with a guy that is 318 but plays like a 300. He only got there because he was carried every week so without us he won't even attempt the raid because he will likely get booted. All in all, I will still take my chances with a team that's above 315 before I invite a 305. I feel that there's a better chance of cruising thru the raid without someone messing up.

I understand if he was just flat out bad but come on man. Patience is the problem really. People want things as quick as possible and here we are complaining we dont have shit to do. Dude, I cleared HM several times with a full fireteam of 309- guardians. You have every reason to get frustrated by his lack of skill sure, but that has nothing to do with light level. And damn, if everyone on the team is 318+, they SHOULD be skilled enough to carry a 309 through the raid. I had a 310 piece of trash during an Oryx challenge mode before. He kept dying at the first phase repeatedly. On the successful run, he went down running to the aura after the first ogre so someone had to take his platform and we only had one floater till we killed Oryx. Its more than doable.

Hmm no. The reason why I don't have a 318 character is not because I'm not good. It's because I can't stand running that raid. I have beaten it before and have no desire to go back and do it again. So this has caused my level to increase slower than people who run the raid. I get my high level gear from iron banner, racing, nightfalls etc. Besides there really isn't any rush.

You sir are an elitist asshat of the very highest order. You weren't always at the light level you are now and I'll bet that you were helped on more than one occasion by someone better than you. It's about time the "elite" payed it forward to those that need the help. My light level isn't awesome and I've never done the raid,but if I get a random ask for help with something and I can do it I always try my best to.

"We know for a fact" proves your ignorance. A person could have a 320 character and have been carried there by others. High level and no skill. Conversely a person could have multiple characters and/or accounts and just be trying to level up a lower character. They still have the same amount of skill they have when playing their 318+, but they have to get that level somehow.

6 RepliesYour crucible stats are all negative, so your premise that better gear=better player is flawed. As far as the raid goes, (which seems to be your only real destiny activity) higher gear is evidence of many completions and good muscle memory and grinding skills, which is what raiding is. I don't raid because it's boring, so my light will never be high, but that doesn't mean I have less skill. My two cents.

In a game where light level is based off of luck and how much someone is willing to continuously play something over and over just to get good rolls on a randomly generated item, saying that isnt really fair. I would consider myself an ok player,but it took me only a few tries to decide that it wasnt a nesesity to complete the raid. Now based off of what the update says tomorrow i may actually do a full completeion friday night. But if its more bad news eff it, I'll just sit at 309 and wait for destiny 2.0
