Not just the shader, you also have to find the armor that looks the best with the shader. I can give a somewhat poor example based on my taste. The old guard shader.... I love it. I think it looks better when applied to the new monarchy boots and chest piece than it does to the crucible armor. Even if the differences are subtle, I think it makes my hunter look sleek. However, I have noticed certain shaders barely even change certain armors, if at all and I have found that to be the case for my warlock.
Maybe destiny 2 will have better shaders and shaders that can be applied to your armor and even weapons in a more detailed way. I hate the seahawks colors on some of my gear.... that it just my preference.
