Aries looked over the valley that his army had made camp at. He couldn't risk a direct assault over the city, as he didn't have anywhere near the amount of ships he used to have in the fleet. He watched as Fallen and Hive alike set up defensive positions, forming up the command centre. Then he looked at the valley they were in. It was relatively large, with only one way in or out. That exit was where the Guardians were forming up. He'd have to plough through them if he wanted to reach the city. A fairly large river split the valley in half, and not doubt would be the site of the heaviest fighting. Lake was behind him, leaning on a wall. Aries," Are you ready?" Lake," Only if Erik is here..." Aries," There's only one way to find out." Meanwhile James and Lakir returned to the Guardian base in the valley after busting out Aliksis and Lakun'ai. Lakun'ai was sent off to get medical attention for his broken legs. Lakir went to the edge of the camp, and kept to himself. James was in command of the whole army, and he was giving orders to his unit commanders. Although he never said how or why, James had fought Aries like this once, so he had an idea as to the tactics he'd use. (( Open. This is the battle of Oasis Valley ))

  • A vex portal opened up up near James, flooding the area in a cryptic blue light. Switch and Zaaria stepped through it, before the portal closed behind them in a crackling bang. Z: "heh, wouldn't miss this fight for anything" S: "Need any help?"

Z: "Numbers shouldn't be a big problem. Even the most novice of guardians have a track record of killing fallen and hive in the thousands on their own" S: "That's cumulative, not collective. Yes, every guardian has on average killed thousands of enemies, but not all at once. that many hive and fallen firing at us in one go is gonna be perfect for a guardian bloodbath. It's not all bad new though..."

  • Sudden comm chatter is heard from both Switch's and Zaaria's helmets. did I just hear someone say FIVE capital ships?! S: "Relax Jaden, we'll find a way to subdue those vessels. Just keep spying on the enemy and contact us if you see anything worrying" Switch, if I was gonna contact you for seeing something worrying, I would have called two bloody hours ago! There's a flipping army of fallen AND hive. That's worrying in my books! Z: "Zip it Jaden" yes mom... Pfft... S: "anyway, the hive shouldn't be too much of a problem as long as I'm here. The fallen however are gonna be a bit more tricky to deal with..."

  • S: "Let's just say that me and Aries share a lot of the same traits now, ever since he corrupted me. Aries has a strong connection to the hive; he can summon and control hundreds of minions to his heart's content. And now that part of him is literally inside me, I also have a connection to the hive. Not quite as strong, but still there nonetheless. I have partial control over the hive here, and I can use that connection to weaken the hive forces, at least enough for our troops to have a distinct advantage over them. Of course however, I can't do much concerning the fallen other than hurt them"

  • Meanwhile Aries was discussing his plan of attack with Lake, and Xil, a Hive Knight of incredible power, and his army commander. A," Send the Thralls first, as cover for our Acolytes and Knights. Wizards and Ogres in the back as special units. The Fallen will hold the river, and act as our snipers. As for the tanks, position them behind the river. They'll rain down fire like artillery. Xil, you'll lead the charge. Lake will come in if it's necessary. I'll join the battle once our weapon is fully charged and ready to fire." On the Guardian's side J," Alright, I suppose I should fill you all in on what we should expect. Aries will treat this like a game of chess. He'll sacrifice his weak pieces and use his strong pieces to bash our lines. Expect a massive Thrall charge, with Acolytes and Knights behind him. He knows a Guardian is much more skilled than some Hive foot soldier, so no doubt he'll keep his Wizards and Ogres in reserve. Same goes for the Fallen tanks. I don't know if he'll be present in the battle, but no doubt he has powerful subordinates acting as his eyes and ears. We take out these commanders, and we can force Aries out. And I wouldn't put it past him to have a trick up his sleeve. Questions? I'll go over organisation of our battalions in a second."

S: "Yeah, I have a question: where's Erik? We could use someone like him right now to help turn the tides in our favour" Z: "we can't entirely count on him showing up. He may not come at all. As for me, I don't have any questions exactly, just tactics. James, if you're coordinating our forces, remember to use super abilities in synergy. If we get hoards of dregs, acolytes and thralls coming our way, use bladedancers, strikers and stormcallers to mow them down up close. As for the more distant targets like snipers and others, use nightstalkers to hold them in position and voidwalkers to rain down on them with bombs to finish off. If they return fire and try to bombard us, we always have defenders. OK, so that's the job for all the arc and void users. But what about all the solar subclasses? S: "they will be more useful later on, once the battle is well under way. Sunsingers can help others regain their light for super abilities, while sunbreakers and gunslingers can help pick off key targets like those knights, wizards, and ogres" Z: "and remember: the more you kill, the faster your light regenerates" Well then, what about us? S: "its our job to take out the kingpins behind all of this: Lake, Aries, and any other highest ranking individuals. Speaking of which, Jaden: have you go eyes on Aries yet?" I think so... Jees, he's miles away, all the way up at the top of the valley, right at the crest. I'm using the strongest scope I have on this sniper and I can barely see-- oh wait, he's with someone Z: "Who?" not entirely sure from all the way out here, but my guess is that it's Lake

  • Aries was talking with Lake Aries," On second thought, I have a special task for you. It may drag out your buddy Erik..." Lake," Spill it already." Aries," You're gonna take my cursed thralls and pay James a visit. Cut off the head of the snake, and the body dies later. You kill him, he Cursed ones will damage their supplies. Target medical supplies and ammo." Lake,"...." Aries," You've come too far to back out now. Besides, more than likely, James will side with Erik if he shows up." Guardian camp J," Alright, I'll take that into consideration. But there's also one more thing. Aries will more than likely rely on close quarters combat, and the same goes for his Hive army. Expect Knights to charge in with cleavers, so make sure every Guardian has a sword they can switch to."

  • Artillery fire was heard off in the distance. Explosions rang out all around them. J," Nevermind. We're good to go right now! I'm going to need you two to lead the charge across the river and destroy those tanks. I'll send Lakir's regiment to provide support."

  • Z: "you want us to lead?! There's no way I'm just going to charge at the front of the pack head on into enemy fire; we'll get mowed down in seconds. Titans aren't that tough" S: "We won't need to run head on..." Another portal opened up nearby and Switch immediately ran through in, closely followed by Zaaria who was still having some doubts. They exited out the other side of the portal, which landed them directly behind the line of fallen spider tanks currently raining long-range fire into friendly territory. S: "Jaden, time to move position!" got it, I can see you two right now

  • The tanks were being protected by The Fallen. Dregs, Vandals, Captains and such. Two dangerous looking Barons watched them from a command platform. It seems they were in charge of the tanks. One wielded a custom staff with a blade at the end. The other, a scorch cannon. The one with the scorch cannon yelled something out, and all the Fallen whipped around and aimed their weapons at the two Guardians. They were behind enemy lines, and reinforcements probably wouldn't reach them anytime soon.

  • S: "Stay close!" Z: "as if I wouldn't right now!" Both Switch and Zaaria became encased in a thick black swirling cloud that warped and whispered as it churned, completely masking the two from visual contact. The cloud quickly dissipated in the breeze, revealing the two individuals to have vanished. Within moments, both Switch and Zaaria appeared right behind the two barons upon the command platform.

  • The one with the staff whipped around and swung towards them, clipping Switch by the stomach and throwing him off the platform, separating the two of them. The one with the Scorch cannon jumped off and fired at Switch, while the staff one fought Zaaria. (( For the sake of redundancy, I'm just gonna call one Staff and the other Scorch. Cool? ))

  • ((Cool)) Switch raised a hand and caught one of the flaming hot projectiles in mid-flight from the scorch cannon in it. The searing heat didn't even phase him as he rushed towards scorch at blisteringly high speed and burying it into his face. Zaaria on the other hand had engaged in a rough stalemate with staff, both of them grasping onto the melee weapon and trying to throw the other off the platform. Both were equally matched in raw strength.

  • Scorch yelled out in pain. He was no match for this Guardian. It didn't fight like a Guardian. He called out for his soldiers. Instantly, Wolves got between Scorch and Switch. Staff continued the stalemate, but he had four arms, whereas Zaaria didn't. Using his two free arms, he grabbed for his wire rifle.

  • Multiple tendrils of pure darkness erupted from Switch's back and lunged forward at the wolves between him and Scorch at high speed, each tendril wrapping around each fallen like aggressive boa constrictors. Out of the corner of his optics, Switch saw the other baron on the platform wrestling with Zaaria and slowly reaching for the rifle with his free arms. Acting on instinct, Switch manipulated a single dark tendril to hurl the wolf dreg it was holding at the two figures on the platform. The dreg slammed straight into Staff with great force, killing the dreg instantly and knocking Staff off the platform. Zaaria however had still been holding onto the baron's weapon and was thrown off too before she could let go.

  • Scorch yelled at one of the Vandals not caught up in the tendrils to report the fight to Aries. It quickly did just that. Aries, although he wasn't expecting it, was quite amused. A," Lake. I think you might want to pay your friends a visit." Lake nodded before walking through a portal. He arrived at the battle site. Within in an instant, all the tendrils that were holding up the Wolves disappeared, and Lake waited for Switch to make a move. Staff had been busy while that happened. He managed to catch himself when he fell and picked up Zaaria by the throat, pinning her to a wall.

Switch looked keenly at Lake; this was the first time he had seen him since he turned dark. Slowly and calmly, Switch raised a hand in the direction of the nearby wolves while still looking at Lake from an angle. In a split second, a bolt of arc lightning erupted from his hand with a loud crack and violently forked its way to the nearby fallen wolves. The bolt killed the ones it touched almost instantly, even causing some heads to explode as the ether within boiled to gas under the immense electrical energy. The fallen dead bodies slumped over onto the floor, lifeless and with a stench of burning meat in the air. Switch lowered his arm and directly faced Lake. "I'm sorry Lake. I could have stopped you from turning dark if those scared idiots back at the city hadn't stopped me while I was trying to cleanse your wound" meanwhile Zaaria used her legs to kick Staff in his chin, snapping his head back and disorienting him. She used the stumble to break free and compose herself.
