Rainbow Six: Siege is the best FPS game I've played in years.

And this is coming from a guy who had absolutely no expectations about the game. I paid almost no attention to the game after hearing about the cancellation of Patriots. From what I did see, it seemed like a Counter Strike clone, and after playing the most recent open "beta" (demo) and the final game for a while... ...I was right. It is, at it's foundation, a Counter Strike clone, but it's a damn good one. It's more good than it has any right to be. I haven't had this much fun playing an FPS game in years. Matches are slow, tense games of chess. Patience, teamwork, and methodical aiming and movement are rewarded instead playing it like you would Call of Duty, running around the map quickscoping fools lone-wolf style. In this case, what's old really is new again (Seriously, it's a mainstream FPS with non-regenerating health. When was the last time you saw that in a AAA FPS?) That isn't to say it's perfect. The netcode is wonky, hit detection can be spotty, there's quite a few annoying bugs and network errors going on, but those are technical issues that can be fixed. Aside from those issues, the core of the game is incredibly solid, and once those bugs are cleaned up I've no doubt it'll shine. As for whether it's worth the sixty dollars or not, well that depends. Personally, I don't regret shelling out the money, but others might have different opinions. It is a multiplayer-centric title with no singleplayer story mode, but with that tradeoff comes focus. Instead of wasting time and money on a half-assed campaign mode (which these kind of games almost always inevitably have), Ubisoft focused on making a competent multiplayer shooter, and they succeeded (there is the Situation mode to scratch that singleplayer itch, but it's not a replacement for a campaign mode). Still, if you'd rather wait for a price drop, then more power to you. The game's not going anywhere anytime soon. Siege is the closest the series has gotten to its tactical roots in a very long time. Not quite there yet, but it's a big step in the right direction, and gives me hope that maybe we'll see a more old-school-style sequel some time in the future.

  • I heard there's no campaign which turned me off especially with a tactical shooter. I never bothered doing any research myself after hearing it. Is it true? Not a big fan of online mp only type games

    • Just like every other multi player only game it will go into the bargain bin for a cheap price in a couple months.

    • This game is NOT a Counter strike clone. I was cal-invite, cevo-pro, and scraped in cpl and played for united 5 gaming all for counter strike and also wolfenstein (went to quakecon and scraped for enemy territory). But lol at the counter strike comparison. Definitely not a good one. Like you can -blam!-ing knock a wall down in siege. You can pilot a drone, there are specific classes, sensitivity is different (because it isn't a PC game), the customization isn't nearly the same, guns (different), gameplay (different), only thing similar are the game modes. And there are only 3 lol.

      • Once they start patching the game I'll get back into it; I can't stand the lag on some servers

      • I like it a lot, but yesterday I got stuck on a table while the attackers were breaching and was stuck in the middle of the room standing. I tried changing stances, but nothing worked. I took one with me and downed another, but it was annoying. Dumb stuff like that, combined with the plethora of error codes and the sometimes infinite matchmaking are bad for a Multiplayer focused game. I won't even complain about the hit detection or the fact that you shoot someone with half your magazine, watch blood squirt out of their head and it's not a kill. If they iron out and fix that stuff, this game is loaded with potential. It's the most fun I've had playing with my friends since Hardcore Search and Destroy when COD was fun and good. I think this game will extend its life or die out with that first content pack in January.

        • Good to see you support the changes Siege has brought to the table. However, how do you feel about the lack of a campaign?

          • https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/178918148/0/0 This is the thread I created regarding the same as your post. Mine is more of a constructive critique coming from a Rainbow 6 player originating on Xbox. Rainbow 6 has always been on its own niche demanding team tactical movement. Siege delivers on that, however, even though we knew it would be multiplayer centered, there is a feeling of a lack of content. I expected more maps, larger areas, more enemies, sniper positioning, etc. as a diehard fan I was a little disappointed but still think it's a decent game. Feel free to peruse my thread to see all the great points ppl made.

            • I didn't buy the game, but I played the closed beta. I had fun. It was something different. I'm seriously tired of FPSs, but Siege made it okay.

              • Thanks, I might purchase this sometime in the near future. I really liked Rainbow 6: Las Vegas, and have see some Siege gameplay as well. What I'm interested in is, does the game encourage/force communication?

                • It is a good shooter but it's incredibly overpriced and the servers are probably the worst i've played in a long long time. And everyone i played this game with agrees on the servers.

Just wanted to point out that counter strike is a rainbow 6 clone First rainbow six released in 1998 and counter strike in 1999 That aside yes it's an ok game but of course buggy as most games are at release

                  • Considering how quickly Multiplayer games tend to die off, I can't see myself investing enough hours into it to justify more than a few bucks at purchase. We'll see what the player base is like in a year.

                  • I'm enjoying this game as my go to PvP and coop PvE game. Realistic difficulty on the coop is a bit insane, but you have to enjoy a game mode against the AI that will actually kick your butt for a change. No health regen and no respawning makes for some pretty tense matches as well. It's had my heart thudding pretty good on several occasions as the last man standing.

                  • The sixty dollars is worth it for a fun multiplayer only game that will have all its dlc free, like maps and characters
