Switch was still wearing the cloth that he had shoplifted from the materials market. He tore it off and dived for Aries, smothering him in it to restrain him. Using all his strength, he used the cloth to spin Aries around, lime spinning up a metal discus, before throwing him into one of his abominations, knocking them off the roof. "How's that for evening out the playing field?!"

  • Aries disappeared before even coming close to one of the abominations. He reappeared behind Switch. From his palm, he shot out a long sharp bone that impaled Switch the ought the shoulder. Using the bone, he picked Switch up and slammed him into the streets below. " One thing you don't want to do, is play games with me."

  • "He might not. But I do" Aries turned around and barely even had enough time to identify who was talking before being whacked in the face by a bar of metal scaffolding, sending him flying.

  • Again, the same process occurred. But this time, Aries would play a cruel game. " Fine.... Let's play a game." In front of him, appeared a little girl. Innocent. Her eyes were filled with tears, because just a little while ago, her parents were killed. Aries picked her up by the collar of her shirt. A portal opened up beneath her. Multiple thrall claws came out, trying to take a chunk out of her ankle. They didn't advance, and Aries didn't do anything yet. But his intentions are clear. " Here's the game. You try your hardest not to move, and the girl lives. So much as breath and I let go, and she is left to her fate. You're going to stand there and watch this city burn, but at least you'll save one life."

  • Before Aries could finish speaking, Switch had blinked back up from the streets and grabbed the girl in mid air before leaping back down. Meanwhile, a grenade from below was tossed into the portal of thralls where it exploded shortly after, killing the fiends within. "You can't call it a game if both sides aren't at even odds"

  • " That's because this isn't a game. It's a war. And in war. No one plays fair." The girl turned into a cursed thrall. It was a trap. The thing exploded, throwing Switch back and taking part of his arm.

  • Switch screamed in pain as he hit the streets, parts of his arm falling around him like metallic rain. The hunter who has thrown the grenade appeared back in the roof and jabbed a knife straight into Aries' face. It entered his mouth and protruded out the back of his head. Still holding the knife, the hunter swung Aries around and pinned his head into a chimney using the knife.

  • Aries stood up, not reacting to the knife in his head. Slowly taking it out, the blade of the knife withered away. " You have no experience in a war. For as much as you hate me, you don't have the intent to kill. You believe that there is a happy ending to this somewhere around the corner. Well wake up! Even if you do kill me, this city will never be the same. You will have to deal with all the death and sadness."

Rather than continue fighting, the hunter responded. "Ok, three things. First: what the actual f*ck, that was gross. Second: sure, I don't have much experience in war, but I sure as hell have killed enough in my short time to know when I want to kill something. And third: yeah, OK. This city will never stay the same, but nothing ever does. You're living proof of that. Everything changes, its always destined to, including this city. But that doesn't exactly mean it changes for the worst. Why do you even want to do this? What do you or anyone else even gain from this?"

  • " What do I gain? This will snap the will of the Guardians. Convince them that they stand no chance against me. Once that is done, I'm free to do whatever it is I want in this solar system, without worrying about some trigger-happy asshole trying to act as the hero."

  • " Of course it is. Everything is personal these days. Once I'm finished here, I won't have to live looking over my shoulder. Always expecting to waste energy on a Guardian."

  • "But let's get serious here for a moment. What do you even have against guardians if you were one yourself once?"

  • " The Light forsakens it's warriors. It left me to die. And then the Darkness picked me up, closed my wounds, fixed my broken bones, and gave peace to my broken mind. All Darkness asks of me is to stop the brutal dictatorship that the Light has over everyone here."

  • "The light isn't a dictatorship, it's a gift. It left you becuase you were willing to be taken in by the darkness instead of dying. Such selfish thoughts are not deserving of this gift we have, and thus, your gift was taken from you, leaving in its wake this husk of a person, a shadow of who you once were" "Holy shit I should way too much like Switchy right now"

  • " No. I called out to the Light. It left me. I was prepared to die. But I would not die as a forsaken Guardian. So I let the Darkness take me. And I haven't regretted it."

  • The hunter paused for a moment, unsure how to react with this ideology he had never though of before, so he just stood there in silence. Instead, another voice spoke to Aries, far more familiar. Switch's host had dematerialises his arm, and he had made his way back to the roof. "You should have let the darkness take you. Not the entity, no. I mean death. You should have let death take you. You would be in a far better place for yourself now if you had died. But no. Instead, you tried to cling to what life you had left by letting the darkness take you in instead. It taints and poisons everything it touches Aries, and you're no exception. That's exactly what has happened to you. You may think that you've been gifted with near immortality and and dark powers and minions, but that's just a cover up for what the darkness really did to you. You've been tainted and trapped rather than uplifted, inside your own body. Sure, the light may have left you, as you put it, but people never really change. Not truly. Therefore, when I look into your eyes I can see that person inside, the person that knows this was a mistake and that he should have died and save his friends rather than accept this far worse fate and endanger them. Now, your inside self has to suffer with what your outside self is doing to the world around you. But, there is a way to escape this bottomless pit you've thrown yourself into"

  • (J = Jaden [the hunter], S = Switch-5) J: "We're not running" S: "But we're not gonna fight either. You haven't shown an ounce of mercy since you arrived on this playing field, so by all means I didn't expect mercy from you. But I think you're lying. I think somewhere inside, you do care for this." J: "don't you see what we're trying to tell you? Look around at this. All this that you have done. None of this is good in any way whatsoever to you or us or anyone. This is just pointless destruction" S: "Pointless revenge. That's what this is. Revenge for what the light did to you. But you shouldn't have taken it out on innocent people that never even knew you or had any part in your fate. And you know they're innocents, because you've called them that yourself"

  • Aries chuckled. " Do you believe this is revenge? No! This is just a step in the grand plan of the Darkness. In fact, I don't bore any hatred towards the Light. I have it to thank for letting me see the truth of the world. The Light is what led me to the Darkness, and for that, I am grateful."

J: "Wait. This is how you repay the light? By burning everyone and everything that holds it sacred?" S: "Face it Aries, you're not serving the darkness' grand plan. That's Erik's job, and if I recall, you two didn't exactly hit it off very well. No, this is just personal. But it's always been personal, hasn't it?"

  • " Oryx is a dissenter. He does not follow the Darkness. He wishes to become an all new God. Something above the real one. The Darkness let's him live because it's amusing, but both groups are not fighting together, but against one another."

S: "Don't you see a connection there? Between you and Oryx? If you ask me, your two seem to be in pretty similar positions. You were both fragile and vulnerable, so you both called to the darkness to be saved, and in return, it uplifted you. Now you both stand tall, with armies at your fingertips and powers that can quake entire worlds. And yet you say the darkness keeps Oryx in power for amusement..." J: "Sooner or later, it doesn't take long to realise that the darkness is probably getting swathes of amusement from you too" S: "Perhaps this is a big game after all. Perhaps it's like a board game being played by one person alone, with all the power. You and Oryx are the Darkness' pawns. It's playthings. And this whole time you thought it actually saw value in you" J: "you keep serving the darkness Aries, and it will simply chew you up and spit you out like weak poison once it's done with amusement"

  • " I know. That's the beauty of it. The Darkness does have its pawns. And I am one of them. But it uses its pawns much better than the Light ever has. Tell me. Just how many Guardians have died here today? And how close have you come to beating me? You think I have power? This is nothing compared to the true champions of the Darkness. The pieces of value. Because in the end. That's all we are. Pieces, to be used and discarded."
