"Ok then, let's play this out. Let's say hypothetically that I do decide to surrender; how exactly do you plan on making me kill them? And why would you entrust such an 'honor' to me, considering they're your arch nemeses?"

  • Switch looked over Aries' shoulder and peered into the eyes of the obviously traumatised family. "What's stopping me from saying 'yes I surrender', waiting for you to pack up and leave, and then conspiring with James, Lake and Lakir rather than killing them?"

  • Switch's eyes narrowed, practically as if they were piercing directly into Aries' eyes. He turned to face the three guardians. "What do you guys think?"

"A plan. Right. This may or may not go horribly" Switch faced Aries yet again. "I'll consider your offer. But in the meantime, I think a certain playing field needs evening..." Switch's arm shot straight up as his performed a 'tugging' motion with it. He blinked straight through Aries to the hostage family, grabbed all of them in a tight hold, and blinked yet again as far away from the roof as his strength would allow. He and the family were out of sight in moments. Before any of the abominations could pursue yet another shadowshot flew there the air and stuck I to the roof, tethering everyone in its radius except for the three remaining guardians.

  • Aries sighed. " Did you really think it would be that easy...? Tell me. How many innocents live here?" As if he was expecting Switch to do that, Aries unveiled his next move almost too well. On all the rooftops of every building still standing for two miles in any direction, other civilians appeared, each one frightened and confused about what was happening. Behind them, a normal clone of Aries stood, each with a gun. " How many have to die before you see the big picture? All of this. It was planned from the start. Ever since you stepped into that courtyard, this battle has gone according to my plan. You've been extremely predictable. But I'll give you some credit. I didn't expect such a prolonged fight."

  • Switch blinked back to Aries' position, without the family. His arms were crossed and he had a blank expression on his face. "Fine. Have it your way then. I surrender"

  • " No. I expect you to choose the smarter choice. You stand down now, and these people are spared. You don't, and I'll kill them, and absorb their Light, and become much stronger than you."

A single dark tendril in the distance that had erupted from the ground seemed to scream with a loud piercing roar, before falling over to one side and evaporating into its own dark constituents, like a tree that had been sawn off at its base. "Ah. That'll most like be my... Nevermind. Not important. But sure, I'll stand down"

  • Aries grow tired. " Change of plans. The deal is over." The tentacles started smashing down buildings. The hostages were executed, and they were quickly drained of their Light. Aries sent his abominations after Switch. Two of them. A portal opened up next to Switch. Dishonour and Insanity stepped out. Neither said a word.
oh gawd. You bish
Switch dived to one side, giving him enough distance from the abominations to quickly communicate with someone over his helmet comm. "Jaden, change of plans! Forget the tendrils and tell everyone in position to move! Now!" All around them, hunters and warlocks alike blinked up to rooftops where hostages were being kept by dark clones. Some guardians kicked the clones to disorient them, while some stabbed them, and some just plain shot them. Regardless, it gave them enough time to grab the hostages and get them off the roofs before the Aries clones retaliated. A few were unsuccessful, either being killed by a clone who wasn't hurt enough, or by being crushed from an ensnaring dark tendril trying to subdue any escapers. Most guardians however, managed to escape with their hostages while platoons of titans provided defensive positions and heavy cover fire.

  • Aries decided to even out the playing field. He was outnumbered after all. Large portals opened up above Guardian defensive positions. What spewed out was a never ending waterfall of thralls, each eager to sink their claws into an unlucky Guardian.

Switch was still wearing the cloth that he had shoplifted from the materials market. He tore it off and dived for Aries, smothering him in it to restrain him. Using all his strength, he used the cloth to spin Aries around, lime spinning up a metal discus, before throwing him into one of his abominations, knocking them off the roof. "How's that for evening out the playing field?!"

  • Aries disappeared before even coming close to one of the abominations. He reappeared behind Switch. From his palm, he shot out a long sharp bone that impaled Switch the ought the shoulder. Using the bone, he picked Switch up and slammed him into the streets below. " One thing you don't want to do, is play games with me."

  • "He might not. But I do" Aries turned around and barely even had enough time to identify who was talking before being whacked in the face by a bar of metal scaffolding, sending him flying.

  • Again, the same process occurred. But this time, Aries would play a cruel game. " Fine.... Let's play a game." In front of him, appeared a little girl. Innocent. Her eyes were filled with tears, because just a little while ago, her parents were killed. Aries picked her up by the collar of her shirt. A portal opened up beneath her. Multiple thrall claws came out, trying to take a chunk out of her ankle. They didn't advance, and Aries didn't do anything yet. But his intentions are clear. " Here's the game. You try your hardest not to move, and the girl lives. So much as breath and I let go, and she is left to her fate. You're going to stand there and watch this city burn, but at least you'll save one life."

  • Before Aries could finish speaking, Switch had blinked back up from the streets and grabbed the girl in mid air before leaping back down. Meanwhile, a grenade from below was tossed into the portal of thralls where it exploded shortly after, killing the fiends within. "You can't call it a game if both sides aren't at even odds"

  • " That's because this isn't a game. It's a war. And in war. No one plays fair." The girl turned into a cursed thrall. It was a trap. The thing exploded, throwing Switch back and taking part of his arm.
