Lakir nodded but stayed where he was. Meanwhile, Aries was almost finished with the preparations.

  • (J = Jaden [the hunter], S = Switch-5) J: "We're not running" S: "But we're not gonna fight either. You haven't shown an ounce of mercy since you arrived on this playing field, so by all means I didn't expect mercy from you. But I think you're lying. I think somewhere inside, you do care for this." J: "don't you see what we're trying to tell you? Look around at this. All this that you have done. None of this is good in any way whatsoever to you or us or anyone. This is just pointless destruction" S: "Pointless revenge. That's what this is. Revenge for what the light did to you. But you shouldn't have taken it out on innocent people that never even knew you or had any part in your fate. And you know they're innocents, because you've called them that yourself"

  • Aries chuckled. " Do you believe this is revenge? No! This is just a step in the grand plan of the Darkness. In fact, I don't bore any hatred towards the Light. I have it to thank for letting me see the truth of the world. The Light is what led me to the Darkness, and for that, I am grateful."

J: "Wait. This is how you repay the light? By burning everyone and everything that holds it sacred?" S: "Face it Aries, you're not serving the darkness' grand plan. That's Erik's job, and if I recall, you two didn't exactly hit it off very well. No, this is just personal. But it's always been personal, hasn't it?"

  • " Believe what you will. It still won't change anything. The Light is old and on the verge of collapse. And as for Erik. He serves Oryx. Not the Darkness. Not the true Darkness."

  • " Oryx is a dissenter. He does not follow the Darkness. He wishes to become an all new God. Something above the real one. The Darkness let's him live because it's amusing, but both groups are not fighting together, but against one another."

S: "Don't you see a connection there? Between you and Oryx? If you ask me, your two seem to be in pretty similar positions. You were both fragile and vulnerable, so you both called to the darkness to be saved, and in return, it uplifted you. Now you both stand tall, with armies at your fingertips and powers that can quake entire worlds. And yet you say the darkness keeps Oryx in power for amusement..." J: "Sooner or later, it doesn't take long to realise that the darkness is probably getting swathes of amusement from you too" S: "Perhaps this is a big game after all. Perhaps it's like a board game being played by one person alone, with all the power. You and Oryx are the Darkness' pawns. It's playthings. And this whole time you thought it actually saw value in you" J: "you keep serving the darkness Aries, and it will simply chew you up and spit you out like weak poison once it's done with amusement"

  • " I know. That's the beauty of it. The Darkness does have its pawns. And I am one of them. But it uses its pawns much better than the Light ever has. Tell me. Just how many Guardians have died here today? And how close have you come to beating me? You think I have power? This is nothing compared to the true champions of the Darkness. The pieces of value. Because in the end. That's all we are. Pieces, to be used and discarded."

  • S: "well that's the beauty of the light. It doesn't have pawns. It only throws away the ones that think of such things" J: "We might just be a bunch of throw-outs, but why does that mean the throw-outs have to fight each other like this?"

J: "...Was kinda hoping that James' light sword would show up any moment now..." S: "Aries, there's no need to play by the rules like some slave. And that goes for all of us. We're giving you a chance to drop everything that you don't need and walk away"

  • Aries looked in the direction of the fight between Hunger, and Romii and Lake. " It seems that one of your comrades has fallen. How many more will die before you accept your defeat?"

  • Switch rushed to the edge of the roof, looking in horror as Lake was flung about like a dog's chew toy and thrown lifelessly into a nearby building. He didn't know what to say or how to react. In the midst of the confusion, Jaden had disappeared from sight.

  • " He's not dead yet. He will be soon. But it's not like you have time to worry about that." Aries disappeared and reappeared above Switch, bringing his elbow down onto his neck.

  • Switch smashed into the roof tiles face first from the impact, but he didn't let it sway him. He had tried to convince Aries that what he was doing was unnecessary and wrong, hoping that whatever shimmer of light that remained within him had heard his reasoning. But it wasn't working, Aries was too thick and blind with darkness to listen to such arguments. Play time was over. He blinked off his front and straight through Aries, passing across him like a sudden breeze. Switch rematerialized right behind him and swung his arm around, connecting his bare hand with Aries' face and grasping it tightly. Searing hot with solar light, it felt like having your head wrapped around in a 200°C metal boiling radiator. Switch threw Aries' head back in an arcing motion, smashed the back of it into his knee.

  • Aries shot out a pulse of thin Darkness. But it was powerful enough to clear out the entire room. The blast shot Switch out of the building and through a wall.

Switch's fall was broken just before the ground by the fabric rain cover of another deserted market stand. He rolled onto the ground as rubble and dust descended onto the surrounding cobbles. He had ideas, but not enough time to see them come to fruition. He just needed to engage Aries for long enough.

  • Aries blasted out in force. He kneed Switch in the gut, connected a right hook into his face, and summoned another sword to lop off one of Switch's legs.

In the fraction of a second, Switch sent a violent coursing of arc light through his whole body and legs, causing sparks to fly between him and the sword. The sparking electricity rapidly generated a strong negative charge between him and the sword, producing a static repulsive force that was too strong for Aries to overcome in such a brisk flash of time. The swiping sword nearly connected with Switch's leg, just before being bounded back as if the sword and leg were magnets with their same ends repelling each other. Taking advantage, Switch leapt up from the ground and kicked the sword straight out of Aries' hand, helped along by the repulsive charge, before discharging all of the built up arc energy straight into Aries' chest in a powerful overcharged Thunderstrike. The sheer power of the overcharged melee sent both Switch and Aries flying in opposite directions. Switch smashed into the market stand that had broken his fall while Aries flew straight into a brick wall.

  • Aries connected with the brick wall with a loud crash. But he was quick to react. He recovered fast and was on his feet. Just as Switch was getting up, Aries punched him in the stomach, but he followed through, and didn't stop running. This caused Switch to slam into four different walks before Aries' momentum was up.

Switch rolled violently along the ground after being thrown through the fourth wall, before finally halting his own momentum by sticking a foot into the ground and sliding along. At this point, most of his armour had been torn completely off, exposing his blue and heavily scratched body plating underneath. But it didn't matter; wearing armour or not would hardly make a difference in a fight like this. His chest was clearly dented in with a shape closely resembling a clenched fist. He spat out some loose metal from his mouth and groaned. He only needed a bit more time.

  • Aries didn't relent. He kicked Switch across the face, sending him through a wall and into an open square. Aries walked over to him and picked him up by the neck, before landing another punch, knocking Switch to the ground.

  • Switch took the punches, but he didn't try to fight back. He was letting Aries hurt him, but somehow it didn't look like he was giving up. Instead it almost looked like Aries was doing exactly what he wanted.

  • A portal opened up in the air just above Switch. Dark tendrils popped out and wrapped themselves around his limbs. Then they started returning into the portal. " This is over now."

"Yes. It is" Aries felt something in his back. He looked down to see a blazing and sharp white blade protruding straight through his chest, right through the cardiac area. The blade was glowing bright white, like a sword made from pure light. It was soo sharp, Aries had barely even felt it stab him. Jaden was standing behind him, holding the hilt of the sword firmly in both hands. He had thrust it straight through Aries' back and out the other end. J: "From the makers of James, in association with Lake, and brought to you by Jaden, I give you... This thing" The tendrils grasping Switch wailed and withered in the sword's direct presence, releasing Switch and violently constricting as if severely burned. Switch fell to the ground and slumped over in pain. S: "ugh...you always were a corny asshole, Jaden..."
