For now, everything was pitch black. Aries' silently set the stage for the next part of this battle. For the Guardians, it was only a few seconds, but for Aries, it was a few minutes. He noted how the fight so far hadn't gone according to plan, but he still had the upper hand. He only had to split himself once. Hunger should be enough for him to finish them off, but if not, he may have to unleash Insanity and Pride, but not yet. Not yet. The darkness soon ended, and Aries was standing on a rooftop. Looking up, he saw the a familiar sight. The Traveler. They were in the city. He noticed how quiet it was. Almost peaceful. How quickly that would change. The next one to show up was Hunger. Why the sudden change of scenery?! I was almost finished devouring the metal one! Aries looked at the grotesque form of himself, the physical representation of his thirst for the Light. And so its name was Hunger. It wasn't on too many occasions that he would have to split himself at all. But this fight proved special. The next ones to arrive where the Guardians, on opposite rooftops. They all looked around until they realised where they were. Neither James, Lake, or Lakir said anything. They had known that Aries was not above using innocents as shields. They would have to tone their attacks down if they didn't want to kill any allies. A stalemate was occurring now. There was no fighting between the two groups. It was the calm before the storm that would follow. (( Open to Indub and Mute. As well as anyone who would like to join. ))

Disorientated and not entirely sure what had just happened, Switch stood up on the rooftop and looked around to find that he and the others had been transported to the last city. He felt the sheer lingering power of the traveler above him coursing through his plating and circuitry. Like life-giving ether for a fallen, he felt it rejuvenate his strength, power, and light. He looked like a complete mess on the outside, with torn fieldweave, cracked armour, and burns and bite marks everywhere. But inside, he felt alive. He felt strong again. As long as he was here, he would have entirely new boundless limits to his potential ability. Here, the light shone brighter than the darkness ever could. He shouted across the rooftops to Aries, standing beside his dark abomination. "Heh. You have the power to create twisted copies of yourself to fight for you and loads more, yet you struggle to bring down not even a full fireteam of guardians. What in this universe then thinks that you'll fair better off when faced by an entire army of guardians instead of four?! Plans not going exactly as, planned, are they?" Switch was trying to be intimidating, but in his head he knew perfectly well why Aries had brought the fight here. He didn't have an entire army of guardians against him, not yet anyway. No one knew they were there, and no one would ever expect such a dark machination to casually grant itself access to the city like this. Aries had an entire city of hostages in his tainted hand and at his disposal. One wrong move, and millions would suffer. Right now, Switch was more concerned about the taken hunter than anything else directly. Has was being reckless, cocky, arrogant. Stupid. He was letting the fact that he had matching power to Aries get in the way of his judgement. He was going to push Aries too far and cause innocent people to die. Switch then looked over to the other three guardians, not saying anything, but just staring into their faces. They knew Aries better than anyone else. They probably knew him better than he knew himself. If this was going to end, it would have to be on their terms. Switch calmly reached for a tiny device hooked onto the back of his torn belt, and pressed a single small button on it. It didn't do anything special in particular, just make a small bleep noise. Switch had played his part. Now, he wait for someone to make their move and judge accordingly.
holy shit that was long
• Aries made the first move. Three extra portals opened up beside Hunger. Three clones came out, each individual different from the last. The first one to appear was Pride. It was as tall as Lakir, and no doubt just as strong. The best one was Dishonour. This clone was an average height, but there was one key difference. There were two torsos on a single body, one facing forward and one facing backward. They didn't have hands, but razor sharp bone protruding out of their arms. The last one was Insanity. It too was of average height, but both of its arms were stitched across its chest, almost as if it was in an invisible straight jacket. Aries disappeared and reappeared on the rooftop behind those four, and sat down with his legs crossed. " I'm going to summon Sorrow. But that'll take time. You're to make sure they don't try to stop me." The four nodded. Hunger stretched at the torso towards Aries. It slithered around him, rising ever so casually, until Aries was completely covered, no longer in sight. It looked like the Darkness equivalent of the Ward of Dawn.

"Ugh. This has got to be the most twisted shit I've ever seen..." Switch dived off the rooftop and out of sight into the crowded streets below. It was unknown where he was going and what he was planning.

  • A simple clone tailed him, out of sight. It was also suppressing its own Darkness, so it could not be detected that way.

  • After pacing briskly through the streets, weaving through the sea of civilians, Switch arrived at the foot of a nearby building and began scaling the outside walls to the roof. There, he linked up with Lakir and indicated to the dark protective field encasing Aries. "He's trying to summon another one of those... Things. And I have a gut feeling that this one will be worse than the others. Any ideas on how to stop Aries or at least distract him from the process? Have you even encountered him doing this before?"

  • Lakir," No. This is new. None of us have seen it. James believes though that the one known as Hunger is too busy protecting Aries to worry about going long distances to kill civilians. So if we can evacuate everyone to a safe distance, we can start our attack." The clone kept within earshot distance.

  • "But how can we evacuate everyone here when there's far too many of them and when there's been no warning whatsoever? Besides, even if we can pull that off, it would take to long. I imagine Aries doesn't need much time at his disposal in order to-- ..."

  • "...huh? Oh, right! Thought I felt something there for a moment. Anyway, if you think that's all you can do, go ahead and do it. Get as many people out of here as you can. I'll go talk to Ginger and the others to hear their ideas"

  • The clone was about to rush off, but Lakir caught it's scent. He threw a knife at the back of its head, and watched it disappear. Lakir," I smelled it out."

"Huh. Thought I felt something... Anyway, we need to get to Aries somehow, and I have an idea. It's not exactly elaborate, but it might just work, provided we have a distraction..." Switch jumped down from the roof and back into the crowded streets, unseen.

  • Lakir nodded but stayed where he was. Meanwhile, Aries was almost finished with the preparations.

  • Dashing through the streets quickly but quietly, Switch bypassed a small market stand selling fabrics for civilian clothing. He swiftly and silently grabbed a piece of cloth and wrapped it over himself to conceal his identity and blend in with the other city inhabitants surrounding him. He soon managed to bypass the abominations' positions on the rooftops and arrived at the building, directly above which Aries was enveloped inside the shield of darkness. He entered the building and scaled the steps, going multiple steps at a time but making sure to keep quiet. Soon enough, he was at the top floor and directly under the dark shield which was protruding through the roofing. Reaching up above his head with his hand, his palm made contact with the dark aura. The touch caused the dark warping aura to turn white and glow brightly with light where he touched it, like forming a cavity in a tooth. He felt the process drain him of light, but he also felt the light within him continually replenish in the traveler's nearby presence. Once the dissolved hole was big enough, he jumped into the shield and burst through the roof tiles, landing on the outside if the building but inside the shield. The cavity of light grew tendrils and closed shut behind him. Now it was just him and Aries. "Expecting me? Again?"

  • Aries' only reaction was one of laughter. " I don't think you got the right idea...." He stood up and walked to the thin dark membrane that protected him, and he placed his hand on it. " Quite clever to use Light to burn your way in, however, you forgot something..... This protective shield is Hunger, and he is perfectly suited to capturing Light and transferring it into energy for me." As he said that, Light was emitting from the Dark membrane and into Aries. He could feel his past strength returning." " And another thing. In here, if you stay long enough, not even the Traveller's Light can reach you."

"Well I'd certainly agree with you there. Using light to burn my way in was indeed a good idea. But what if you took it one step further? I managed to make a hole in it large enough to get myself through simply by touching it with my hand. But what if you touched it with something equally as light-filled as a guardian, but a little more, powerful? Something fast and strong. Something like... an overcharged shadowshot?" At that split moment, the entire bubble turned from a black and oozing texture to a blindingly bright and dissolving white aura. A shadowshot burst from outside had sliced straight through the shield, directly where Aries had been holding up his hand. The shadowshot exploded on impact with his palm and cause his whole forearm to evaporate into the void, meanwhile the entire shield of darkness had turned white and dissolved, like ash in a light breeze. Switch felt the sun's rays hit him on his back, feeling rejuvenated and free from the dark snare within which he and Aries had been cocooned.

  • " You forgot. Hunger can absorb your Light. Any Light." Just before the protective membrane collapsed, Hunger had wrapped himself around Aries, becoming a thin and invisible second skin. The power of the Light weapon used on the protective shield transferred to Hunger, who is now transferring it to Aries. Hahaha! You idiot! You fell for it! Now you're going to be devoured!" Aries and Hunger separated, and then Aries put his palm on the ground. " Thank you for the power I needed. Now I can summon Sorrow." Nothing happened on the outside. But pretty soon the ground started trembling. After a few more seconds of this, the ground started opening up. Something came out of the ground, almost like a giant tentacle. Almost like the mythical Kraken, multiple tentacles popped out of the ground, each one bigger then the Tower. A loud deafening roar emitted from the ground. As if it could get worse. The almost limitless amount of Light that the Traveller was supplying to the Guardians, stopped. It was being blocked. " Now. It's my turn to attack."

"You sure about that?" A second shadowshot zoomed through the air with a whaling screech and directly hit Aries square in the back. The shot exploded on impact, sending him flying forwards and momentarily halting the process. The source of the fired shadowshots still remained a mystery, while the dark tendrils continued to flail in the air like some trapped octopus under a barred manhole cover. "Ill admit, you're pretty much correct about everything you just said. Sure: the light feeds the darkness, and everything we throw at you only strengthens you. I bet that shadowshot felt healthy, despite busting your back in like a bitch. But who's to say that it doesn't work both ways? You may have the ability to block the channels feeding us light, but only so long as you're focused on that task. Face it Aries: you made a bad move deciding to come here of all places. Here, a guardian couldn't be stronger if they tried. We distract and engage you, those revitalising channels open up again. As long as you're distracted by us, you loose enough focus for us to maintain our strength, and anything dark that touches us will only get burned, like some small helpless creature on scorching desert sands. Like I said: it works both ways. Our attacks may feed you, yet your attacks only burn against us" "What was that thing you said to ginger earlier; 'The party is just about to start'? Something along those lines? Well, I do indeed believe it has"

  • Aries chuckled. " That's why I have friends to cover me." The four abominations appeared in front of Aries, and stared at Switch. Meanwhile, the tentacles started their own attack. They swung down and crushed buildings in one foul swipe.

  • In Switch's head he was hoping that the other guardians had evacuated as many civilians as possible before the tendrils had emerged. Rather than strike at the abominations, Switch moved fast to the nearest erupting tendril, where he arrived at its base and placed his hand on its surface to test the effect it had, if any.

  • The touch caused a reaction that blasted Switch back. Aries smirked. " You can't harm it so long as I have control over it."

Switch got up from the blast and brushed himself off. "So, all I need to do is sever your control. And while I might not be able to damage it myself, I can think of one or two things that certainly can..." He briefly glanced over to the traveler itself, radical ideas and plans storming through his head. Luckily, the nearby streets were mostly empty now. Most civilians had either been temporarily evacuated by the other guardians, or had dropped everything and ran at the sight of the giant dark tendrils.

  • Aries anticipated his next move. " I've let you have your fun. But it's my turn now." Right in front Aries, and just behind the abominations, civilians appeared. Three people. A family. A father, a mother, and a little daughter. " Surrender now, and they live. Continue to fight, and they'll die. After every fifteen minutes, I'll grab a new family to butcher until you do surrender."

Switch slowly turned to face Aries. His head was angled down, yet his optic eyes were boring straight into Aries' eyes like drills, their purple glow conveying a very serious and angry subliminal message. With a stern flick of his arm and wrist, Switch blinked from his position in the streets, to directly in front of Aries. He had moved over 50 metres in less than a second. "Ok. You've got my attention... So what happens if I surrender?"
