Just got New Vegas. Any Tips?

Just got New Vegas (first Fallout game) and am in the hotel in Primm but keep leaving encounters with low ammo and health items because enemies seem to take a lot of bullets. Probably just need to get used to it but does anyone have any beginners tips? Edit: Played again today and reached Novak. The game finally clicked for Birdman. Thanks for the tips! Feel free to share more if you have them though. ( * v * )

    • Near Goodsprings, there is a statue of a massive cross. Dig up the graves near it. They have a ton of great loot. You should also loot the Devil's Gullet, right next to the statue. Search the inside of the truck, under the wood planks you used as a ramp. You should also loot Goodsprings Cave. There's a Bright Follower with a Recharger Rifle, which has unlimited ammo. You should loot Victor's Shack for some scrap metal. Also, take everything from the schoolhouse, and the town mailboxes. Sell the junk to Chet. You should buy two sensor modules, some scrap metal (if you didn't get it from Victor's Shack), and some scrap electronics. If he's not selling them, you should be able to find them around town. Once you get to Primm, enter the Nash Residence, and use the scrap metal, electronics, and sensor modules to repair the robot on the table. That's your first companion. If you're having trouble in the hotel, use the Incinerator from the grave near the across statue to kill the convicts. I also have a theory of an easy way to get to Vegas, but I haven't tested it. If you want to try it, go northwest from Goodsprings Cemetery, and follow the road/path. Using the map, follow the road north. There's a tribal camp with some chems, and a group of raiders in an old western style town. You can avoid them, if you want, but they have good loot. Once you pass them, after a few minutes you'll see Vegas. I'd recommend keeping to the hills until Yush reach "Westside" in the Northwest corner of Vegas. Stock up on supplies, then head East, and then slightly south to Freeside. Head through Freeside to the second zone, and at the end of the second zone, you'll see the gate to Vegas. It requires 2,000 caps to get in, which you can have by now if you get all the junk in Goodsprings and sell it to Chet. Alternatively, you can complete a quest for the King in the School of Impersonation, and choose as a reward to be able to get into Vegas. In Vegas, you'll immediately be approached, and you can take up residence in the Lucky 38. This is the only player home in the game. Hope this works!

    • Go to the Mojave express place in primm and repair the robot. Next go to Novak at night and do the quest for the nighttime sniper Boone. Then you instantly have the best follower combo in the game. Longer radar from Ed-e (the robot) and when you ads enemy's are highlighted from Boone.

          • Lower the difficulty setting from average to very easy. I do this on casual playthroughs because the only benefit you can reap is more xp the higher the difficulty setting. A 357 revolver is a good starter weapon. 44 and ranger sequoias are very good as well, although sequoias are harder to attain. Get some good armor, like leather armor is good for starters. You can get some easily. Put your strength amd luck to 10. You do not need charisma or perception or intelligence. Since this is your first playthrough, vats is very useful. So high agility might help as well on a first playthrough. If you see a deathclaw, run. You arent ready yet. Get the wild wastlander perk. You get the best weapon in the game. The alien blaster. Look up where to find it. And lastly, take. Your. Time. Do not rush the game. Just explore everything.

              • Don't even try getting to the city just yet. Just like in fallout 4, you should skip the story (or do the first bit to get a hand on it) and then exclusively do side quests until you're a much higher level. At that point, if you want a bigger challenge or its just too easy, up the difficulty. Hang on to your valuables. See a challenging deathclaw but can kill it with some explosions and a few shots? Kill it with your weaker guns. Always save the bigger guns for the bigger deathclaws. When you're further in the story, go north and walk along the northern top of the map. Around there, you'll find a very good gun held by some powerful threat. The gun depends on a perk you activated/didn't early on called the wild wild wasteland perk. A gun will be there, but it'll be dependant on what choice you made. If it is a gun that has rare ammo, never use it, except for when you go to the far bottom right side of the map, directly south of the legions camp. You'll find a legendary deathclaw and a piece of remnant armor (very, very good armor. It's the x01 in fo4)

                • Early on, if you know there is somewhere to sleep nearby try to save your stimpacks. Learn which items sell at a decent price for example drugs and prewar money. Save often, especially if you just found something cool or completed a mission.

                • There's this place in Freeside called the Silver Rush. Walk in there, and use your telekinetic powers to move all of their display weapons into the closet/bathroom. (I think it's RS in NV) Sneak, and grab all the mines and grenades. Place mines around room. Throw grenade. Go back in closet. Enjoy your new arsenal of energy weapons. Don't worry, they're bad people, anyways. ^-^

You don't need tips scrub, this is the greatest 3D Fallout out there and half the experience is wandering into fuсk knows what. I'll just give you the hint of don't go directly north to New Vegas, scary shit yo. Also learn to reload ammo

                            • Always collect prewar money. Its weightless and sells at a price that's pretty decent for junk. Cashes will often hold quite a few. So you can sell all the hear you found and if the merchant still has money you sell a few of those, otherwise you can keep it for the next one without having them weigh you down. Same goes for the ammo of guns you dont use, as long as you're not playing on hardcore mode.
