Why do some people pronounce the noun, lore, like the comparative adjective, lower?

More as if the "w" in "lower" is somewhat swallowed and pronounced as "lo-er". I hear that pronunciation frequently for "lore".

OMG, and the people who pronounce "grimoire" as "grim-more".
