People aren't asking for matchmaking for raids, they're asking for an LFG system built into the game so that the purely excruciating task of switching from web site to live messaging to game invites can be done easier.
I also don't understand why people argue against this, you wouldn't be forced to use it.

You're right, I wouldn't use it at all. Then why should they spend time and resources on making a system that will ultimately be a failure for 90% of the people who use it and discourage those same people from using it again? As cool as an in-game destiny LFG would be that would allow us to pick and choose our groups, the amount of coding that would need to go into such a feature is a lot. We probably wouldn't see something like that until Destiny 2, if not Destiny 3.
