As a fellow responsible adult with kids and who not uncommonly works 60+ hours a week I empathize with the time-gating, I only just got a black spindle last week b/c I finally had time and haven't touched any characters besides my warlock since TTK dropped. But I'd argue that time gating is better than praying to RNG for 8 months that you'll finally get that drop. And yes the drops are crap in a lot of ways. But you say you played every day so I don't quite get how it's such a huge barrier if it wasn't before, sounds more like you changed your priorities, which is not a bad thing, but nothing to do with the game. If you're not having fun go take a break but you can't blame Bungie for all of this: - Look, man, year 1 weapons were both stale and OP and needed to go. If they didn't release new weapons everyone would be complaining we have to keep using the old boring ones so it's a catch-22 for them. - if you went from level 34-40 in a day, you probably banked bounties and tossed on a red bull code booster thingy like the rest of us and have nobody to blame but yourself. - IDK why people have their panties in a wad about microtransactions, but whatever. Just don't buy the stuff. TL;DR If you're not having fun don't play. The drops might be crap (looking at you Iron Banner) and the scaling is all off but that's the only real problem that's been introduced. Infusion is a great concept that's been poorly implemented only due to the bad drops. Time gating, while annoying, is better than waiting months on end for RNG (and maybe never getting what you want) and the level 1 weapons were getting stale and had to go.
