I understand what you're saying, but my guess is...you haven't really played an MMO type game before have you? Lol. A lot of this is very normal. Like leaving gear behind is normal. This game isn't for everyone and everyone should understand this. I knew exactly what this game was when I got it and I love it. Definitely my style of game. But not everyone likes to grind for gear and that's cool. I do like it however. Yes 40 is useless info on a character, but you know what...if Bungie can redesign the entire leveling system once they can do it again and improve upon it. Nothing is etched in stone in this game except we get to shoot aliens. If one doesn't understand this then I can see why they're frustrated. So if Destiny isn't for you that's fine, but please don't behave as if you have the final verdict on what this game is. Many people understand the way this game works and are very passionate about it because it is fun for us.

  • Dude you're pitching a very tired, broken record counter argument! But hey, it's your viewpoint and that's fair enough.

Im sorry I have to copy/paste my other comment here. But as I just was discussing the same thing with the other person and I find it a chore to write it all again.
MMORPGS have this sense of progression where you get the basic game that gets you lets say level 40. Expansion comes out with monsters level 40-60. New players and old players who have not yet reached level 40 need to complete the basic game before they start to tackle out the expansion. Next expansion comes out with monsters 60-80. Again.. You cant play the expansion unless you have completed the previous challenges. This system respects the veteran players and gives challenge and longetivity to new players. Destiny just ramps up new players up there as quickly as possible.. Thats just plain bad
I have played a lot of MMORPGS and the thing is.. They get larger with the expansions just because they dont ramp up the new players and alts over the content. This also gives the feeling of progression that is much needed in destiny. So in destiny case I would imagine you would need the Vog gear to clear Crota.. You would need Crota gear to beat down Skolas and without Poe gear you couldnt tackle the TTK.

I really don't mind that Destiny allows new players to catch up. That's actually the big problem with other MMOs. They come out and all the starting players are there. Some people stay, some go. Eventually new players come in say...a couple of years in. Find out that it's a lot of fun, however they realize it'll take a long time to reach level cap so they can finally play with their buddies in raids or doing anything worthwhile in the game. It becomes work at that point and very tedious. And then you only end up with a player base that's all hardcore players and is not friendly to newcomers. Destiny tries to balance this constantly. You can't make it too easy cause then hardcore players have nothing to show for their hard work and can't make it too hard cause it won't appeal to new players due to the amount of work just to get to ACTUALLY play the real game which is the end game. Hence light levels and how it's tied to your gear and now your weapons. And if you honestly have played MMOs before than you definitely know that weapons and gear get left behind along with new level caps to grind out for. That's the territory my friend. Also Luke Smith confirmed that they made a mistake making year 1 weapons TOO powerful and want more balance. That's why y2 has slightly weaker weapons. But you hardly notice. Except for swords. I'll choose Raze Lighter over Gjallarhorn. That thing is a beast.

I think we can agree to disagree. I can respect your opinion and understand that some players can appreciate the old content made irrelevant. But this is not for me.. When I bought destiny a year ago, I honestly did it without much of research and assumed that Destiny would be MMORPG kind of a game. How wrong I was.

  • I'm curious cause I haven't played them all. What MMO allows for players to use their year 1 gear in year 2 and beyond?

  • Its not about you can use year 1 gear in year 2.. But rather you need year 1 gear to get year 2 items. I have played: Anarchy Online, World of warcraft, Lord of the rings online, D&D online, Star wars the old republic, guild wars 1&2, EVE online, Lineage 2, Ultima Online, Darkfall and a bunch of other games which name I cant remember anymore..

  • Yes and it goes back to my argument about their being too large a gap between new players and old ones. Personally I want new players to come in easily. And 90% of the game can still be run with y1 gear. And even though new players can be at level cap fast there's just some things they'll never have. Certain emblems, gear, or weapons. They'll never have the original Titan Iron Banner helmet that I have. Or The Devil You Know handcannon that I have. Or experience the Blades of Crota roaming around the Cosmodrone or even the House of Wolves public events for that matter. So my time on Destiny hasn't been wasted. While time in Destiny by new players is very welcoming. To me...that's very tough for a company to accomplish in a game. Destiny is an ambitious game for a reason.

  • Hi there, I totally agree with you. I bought Destiny Year 1 and soon sold it again, because the whole leveling System just wasn't my Thing. I simply didn't have the time to grind endlessly for gear that would bring me to Level cap. So Destiny was sold, because I justn hadn't had any fun with it. With the realese of TTK I made Research. When it was cheap on Amazon I bought it again, you for 47€ I got everything that was ever released and I thought: 47€ for a game that would have cost me 140€ in year 1? Hell why not? And I have fun. I like the questing System and that I can reach Level cap without endlessly grinding. Sure I had some legendaries from year 1, but you know what? I didn't care. As you mentioned it is common to leave old gear behind and that's what I did and I'm happy. All this hate towards TTK is stupid in my opinion. Bungie made the game so that even People with less time can Play, like me, and have something to accomplish. It is just a shame, that the PoE for example has such strong enemies, but your rewards aren't on par with that challenge, but guess what? I can live with it. I will still try to defeat Skolas, just to get that nice ship of the Awoken. And other than that? Exotics from year 1 can be bought in the Tower without Xur, you just Needs marks or those shards. And by dismanteling old exotics you get the shards whith which you can be year2 gear of that item. I really don't get it. With this Option Bungie gives you the opportunity to get year1 gear back. So what if it's not gjallahorn? take that nice sword, that's we were waiting for. I even have that nice Iron Banner Emblem from year 1 that no one of the new Players will get. So there are achievements that stay as well. I don't get the hate at all...

  • You're now my favorite person on the forum lol. Sometimes I feel like I'm on a crazy boat filled with crazies. If you still need help with Skolas feel free to add me. Players like us gotta stick together lol. Kyrop87. But yea there's so many hardcore players on the forums they totally forgot about the new or casual players. And games like these live and die on their player base so I'm not sure why people forget that.
