You are right in a way, But MMORPG's do it with style. MMORPGS have this sense of progression where you get the basic game that gets you lets say level 40. Expansion comes out with monsters level 40-60. New players and old players who have not yet reached level 40 need to complete the basic game before they start to tackle out the expansion. Next expansion comes out with monsters 60-80. Again.. You cant play the expansion unless you have completed the previous challenges. This system respects the veteran players and gives challenge and longetivity to new players. Destiny just ramps up new players up there as quickly as possible.. Thats just plain bad.

  • And they need to improve on that.

I have never played an MMORPG before, but you're saying new players will start right at the beginning, and have to progress through EVERYTHING to have a chance at doing any current end game content? I find that extremely difficult to believe. No new players will stay if they know they're years behind everybody else. There has to be some kind of catch up system. I agree that vets should have their time respected, but a new player isn't going to be convinced to stay if they're starting right at the beginning. I guess its not too bad for Destiny, since this is a relatively young game. Anything that is 2+ years old is going to struggle to attract new players if they're too far away from everybody else. The game will die without new players, and I don't see how you attract them by making the entry requirements to play any new content so high.

  • Its exactly as I said. I have played many different Mmorpgs and that is the single thing that keeps the player going. I have achieved this gear and everyone who wants the same gear will have to play as much as I did to achieve those things. Its also why the new players are motivated. There are these end game characters walking around and all the noobs can think of is -"Wow.. I need to get that armor! I will work my ass off to get that armor!". Thats why the old content stays relevant. You need to go it trough with every alt you make. You can grind the old content with your high end characters to make it a bit easier for the alts. But the content is relevant! No-one gets boosted over it.

  • I want old content to stay relevant. That makes sense to me in a young game. How does a game like WoW (that must be at least 10 years old now?) attract new players when they're so far behind everybody else? You may think the end game gear looks cool, but tens of thousands of hours of gameplay to catch up sounds insane to me. I would never bother getting into a grind as ridiculous as that.

  • You can get into a clan that can help you powerlevel trough the old content but the main point is that MMORPGs are huge. They need devotion like no other games and thats the main point why they are huge. They get expansions that dont make the old content irrelevant. Maybe Mmorpgs are not for you or you just need to experience the beauty of them for yourself to see my point why Destiny would be a better game if it took some lessons from the big boys.
