You did it Bungie! Im no longer addicted!

A week without playing Destiny has opened my eyes. With TTK destiny got a lot of good things like the new questing system, more interesting bounties.. a whole new patrol area. Strikes that are fun to play and new subclasses that feel fun to play. But with those good things there came things that in the end ruined the game for me and many others I believe. Weapons: You took away our favourite weapons from Y1. Fatebringer, Icebreaker, Black hammer and Gjallarhorn and gave us no choice of ascending the gear we have grown into. Instead, you gave us a bunch of new weapons that dont feel as powerful as Y1 weapons even remotely. You murdered Hand cannons and gave us Hand Cannon lovers no way of practising our trade. I personally have not found a set of new weapons I would feel home at. Lvl 34-40: I went from 34-40 in a one day! In a game where you are forced to grind for gear you get the XP levels for free? XP levels are utterly useless. Just a number which rolls up too quickly. In my opinion this was a huge -blam!- up from bungie.. Levels should have meaning, Levels should be harder to get. Sense of progression and old content: None! All the gear we have grinded was swept useless in a single blow! Bungie does it periodically to keep players grinding for gear. But for what? I dont see the carrot grinding items anymore. After the items have swept clean from our pockets, the old content get rendered useless. The game gets an "expansion" But actually gets shrinked. Time Gated Items: Bungie please! Let ME decide when I play! As a father of a 6 year old girl and working 5 days a week I dont have time to play whenever RNG just happens to pop up the quest in the daily rotation. So no black spindle for me, as the days the quest is up I just dont have the time to play. Still no LFG system: As I said, I dont have time to spend hours visiting Facebook, Bungie.net, DestinyLFG or any other 3rd party LFG site to get a team together I have no proof of how it will perform in the raid. I have like 50 PSN friends on my list and that gets me a 1 raid per 2 weeks if I try really hard. Mainly because my working times are concidered to be different from normal in my country. Rewards: Last time I played, I was with a struggling team on Oryx. We played 4,5 hours and stopped on Daughters as the team scattered. 2 hours of putting the people together, 4,5 hours of raiding. Thats 6,5 hours of effort.. What was my rewards you may ask? 304 boots and a bunch of shards. RNG system can be so cruel and Bungie claimed they have improved it. Raid drops in general are pretty bad compared what we had in the previous raids. Raiding should be rewarding experience. Microtransactions: This was just a last nail in the coffin for me. I always have been against games that try and pry more money out of their product by making the player addicted and then starting to cash that addiction in. In response Bungie havent announced anything about the next DLC. There are too much rumors going around. Will it be free? And if its free? Is it going to be cheap like free products are? No point in light 310+: You released hard raid for us to get over light 310. But for what? to play Hard mode raid? If I land to the moon and kill some dregs as light 260 character, I do it as efficiently as I kill them with light 320 character.. Because the difficulty modifier system is just plain bad. I didnt kill atheon and crota.. Skolas and Oryx just to struggle in a starting area against low level monsters. Where is the sense of character developement here? Iron Banner I loved the way how House of Wolves iron banner offered you a new way of reaching the maximum level with the etheric light. It felt rewarding and fun way to get those etheric lights. With TTK iron banner you just murdered the illusion of the rewarding experience grinding a week in PvP tournament. Now you have light 280 legendary items as a reward for such a special event? I dont know what to say.. The addiction: From launch to TTK, I played every single day. And when I didnt play, I would pop up the destiny app and see what the forums had to say about daily missions or would they have a new cheese for the lamp section at crota. In general I had to drop a lot of activities to make time for my beloved new hobby, Destiny. When TTK launched I had a change in work schedule and I slowly started to realize I should probably give some time to the family and friends too. I made the decicion to slow down with destiny and at the same time not knowing about the time gated exotics. Now I keep destiny at bay. I keep prowling the forums and wait if they launch the next DLC.. And what are the major changes if any to the game. But with confidence I must say Destiny is done for me. It seemed like a game I would play trough the whole 10 year plan.. But it turns out its not. Without my addiction I have found a lot of things to do with my life! Its like my eyes would have been opened from a long sleep..

  • All good points, especially LFG sites. Why can' there be a matchmaking 'option' on all the raids, nightfalls, etc.LFG is just extra faff when all I want to do is pull the trigger.......

    • All these people saying that the weapons should go. Have you guys ever thought that maybe Bungie and the community alike shouldn't have the power to control other players' experiences? I mean, what other game utterly removes weapons or makes them entirely useless? Not even CoD does that, and they're also under Activision.

      • Don't worry, they'll just release a couple of new emotes and you'll come right back to Destiny, emptying your wallet and pockets to throw any money you have at the screen. That's what Bungie thinks, anyway. 'Tis a shame they're sorely mistaken.

      • I stopped playing when I realized I wasn't doing the things I love about destiny, rather I was doing pointless quest objectives. Like waiting on Mars for hours to get a Warsat. Or trying to complete the sword quest and having to run the final strike multiple times because randoms are inconsiderate and killed my knight. Using a gun I don't like to use in crucible for no good reason other than the fact Bungie told me to and it will get me a shotgun. And last but not least, the seemingly purposefully bad loot system.

As a fellow responsible adult with kids and who not uncommonly works 60+ hours a week I empathize with the time-gating, I only just got a black spindle last week b/c I finally had time and haven't touched any characters besides my warlock since TTK dropped. But I'd argue that time gating is better than praying to RNG for 8 months that you'll finally get that drop. And yes the drops are crap in a lot of ways. But you say you played every day so I don't quite get how it's such a huge barrier if it wasn't before, sounds more like you changed your priorities, which is not a bad thing, but nothing to do with the game. If you're not having fun go take a break but you can't blame Bungie for all of this: - Look, man, year 1 weapons were both stale and OP and needed to go. If they didn't release new weapons everyone would be complaining we have to keep using the old boring ones so it's a catch-22 for them. - if you went from level 34-40 in a day, you probably banked bounties and tossed on a red bull code booster thingy like the rest of us and have nobody to blame but yourself. - IDK why people have their panties in a wad about microtransactions, but whatever. Just don't buy the stuff. TL;DR If you're not having fun don't play. The drops might be crap (looking at you Iron Banner) and the scaling is all off but that's the only real problem that's been introduced. Infusion is a great concept that's been poorly implemented only due to the bad drops. Time gating, while annoying, is better than waiting months on end for RNG (and maybe never getting what you want) and the level 1 weapons were getting stale and had to go.

        • You made a lot of good points, the raid and Y1 gear especially. I always wanted to do VoG but now there's no point. I did so Skolas, just for the fun of it. But lately, I've jumped back to playing Halo 4 multiplayer and the campaign, I haven't even finished normal oryx because I don't have the time to find people and wait 1-2 hours to play after finding a full team

        • I totally agree with you! Bungie, you are losing so much players from now. So what you gonna do? I bet you will upgrade the gallahorn for year 2 to make this players come back, right?

          • you make some valid points on the replayability (is that a word) (it is now). i myself have 2 kids and i play destiny normally once per week for about 4 hours (i time appears then i will play more) i have been here since beta and i have enjoyed ttk launch but i do not feel like i need level all my characters as all the hard work i did in y1 is gone.... just gone so i just feel like its not worth my effort in y2. the raid gear doesnt feel like its worth the effort, just the light level is... i would love to have vog become relevant (level 40) for me it is the most enjoyable raid but now u can effectively steamroll it.

            • Wait a minute...people are seriously "addicted" to video games? You played the game too much There's no reason to get past 310 because level advantages only have an effect every 10 light levels so people grinding hard raids trying to get to 319 are shooting themselves in the foot Play other games or go outside and interact with other people. Games are meant to be a fun distraction, not a job

what's REALLY amusing is that usually when someone makes a post like this, there typically is quite a bit of resistance. In fact, the resistance usually makes up the majority. I just scrolled down and saw not one disagreement. That is something. I took a break from destiny for about 2 full weeks, and i have only played it about two very quick sessions in the last month. i was beta testing a moba that is amazing. for me personally, the unneeded changes, and lack of needed changes in destiny's multiplayer absolutely ruined the game for me. they're STILL letting noobs run around with shotguns, there's STILL supers and heavy ammo in the crucible, you STILL can't use an entire weapon class (hand cannons) because they closed the skill gap and let bad players catch up (pulse and auto users). and then they said that the hard raid was going to be harder due to mechanics, and not just because you are underleveled. so i get to hard orxy on day one, and why was it harder now? it sure as hell wasn't harder due to the "mechanic" (1 red bar knight for each guy to focus on). it was harder because you are underleveled and the trash mobs kill you faster, and the ogres kill you faster. it's crota hard all over again

              • Definitely. I've been so fed up with Destiny for about 2-3 weeks. Haven't played it for a while (played a cheeky nightfall for 294 gauntlets last night and the day before). I've recently spent my time on activities such as CS:GO and Black Ops 3. I actually quite enjoy the experience of both of these games. As for Destiny, it's no longer an addiction, TTK brought in a shrunken version of Destiny. No longer a fun experience for me. I hope Bungie changes their game around, to the original, and fun Destiny.

                  • Whole heartedly agree, There are some major flaws in the game, but I don't think Bungie sees them as flaws, Destiny is tailored around the 'Sore Losers' and the people who are prone to addiction, Destiny purposely aims for the 'masses' in a very short term view. Bungie uses 'Casino' Strategy to keep people coming, small rewards on a low interval.. gets boring? change the rewards. ( same setup mind you.. just different looks ) 100 people complain about not getting 'Exotics'.. what does Bungie do? Implement 'Xur' now what is the point of exotics if they are buyable and not 'rare' ? same goes for 'Legendary Gear' In any game I've ever played 'Legendary' means 'Hard to get' and worth your while, in Destiny Legendary means, grind a couple of hours and you can have sets for all your characters. There is no dedication/skill needed at all to get to 290+ and be able to play all the endgame stuff, Destiny purposely has a high 'addiction' factor, which in itself is fine, I've spent loads of time on it and I don't feel cheated per se, I've been happily blowing away enemies all over the system and having an ok time doing so, it's just that there is no way really to distinguish yourself.. Got a cool exotic gun/armor? well guess what? so does every single friggin person in the game. got cool raidgear? call me when you find a place other than the raid where they are useful.
