A week without playing Destiny has opened my eyes.
With TTK destiny got a lot of good things like the new questing system, more interesting bounties.. a whole new patrol area. Strikes that are fun to play and new subclasses that feel fun to play.
But with those good things there came things that in the end ruined the game for me and many others I believe.
Weapons: You took away our favourite weapons from Y1. Fatebringer, Icebreaker, Black hammer and Gjallarhorn and gave us no choice of ascending the gear we have grown into. Instead, you gave us a bunch of new weapons that dont feel as powerful as Y1 weapons even remotely. You murdered Hand cannons and gave us Hand Cannon lovers no way of practising our trade.
I personally have not found a set of new weapons I would feel home at.
Lvl 34-40: I went from 34-40 in a one day! In a game where you are forced to grind for gear you get the XP levels for free? XP levels are utterly useless. Just a number which rolls up too quickly.
In my opinion this was a huge -blam!- up from bungie.. Levels should have meaning, Levels should be harder to get.
Sense of progression and old content: None! All the gear we have grinded was swept useless in a single blow! Bungie does it periodically to keep players grinding for gear. But for what? I dont see the carrot grinding items anymore. After the items have swept clean from our pockets, the old content get rendered useless.
The game gets an "expansion" But actually gets shrinked.
Time Gated Items: Bungie please! Let ME decide when I play! As a father of a 6 year old girl and working 5 days a week I dont have time to play whenever RNG just happens to pop up the quest in the daily rotation. So no black spindle for me, as the days the quest is up I just dont have the time to play.
Still no LFG system: As I said, I dont have time to spend hours visiting Facebook, Bungie.net, DestinyLFG or any other 3rd party LFG site to get a team together I have no proof of how it will perform in the raid. I have like 50 PSN friends on my list and that gets me a 1 raid per 2 weeks if I try really hard. Mainly because my working times are concidered to be different from normal in my country.
Rewards: Last time I played, I was with a struggling team on Oryx. We played 4,5 hours and stopped on Daughters as the team scattered. 2 hours of putting the people together, 4,5 hours of raiding. Thats 6,5 hours of effort.. What was my rewards you may ask? 304 boots and a bunch of shards. RNG system can be so cruel and Bungie claimed they have improved it. Raid drops in general are pretty bad compared what we had in the previous raids.
Raiding should be rewarding experience.
Microtransactions:
This was just a last nail in the coffin for me. I always have been against games that try and pry more money out of their product by making the player addicted and then starting to cash that addiction in.
In response Bungie havent announced anything about the next DLC. There are too much rumors going around.
Will it be free? And if its free? Is it going to be cheap like free products are?
No point in light 310+: You released hard raid for us to get over light 310. But for what? to play Hard mode raid? If I land to the moon and kill some dregs as light 260 character, I do it as efficiently as I kill them with light 320 character.. Because the difficulty modifier system is just plain bad. I didnt kill atheon and crota.. Skolas and Oryx just to struggle in a starting area against low level monsters. Where is the sense of character developement here?
Iron Banner I loved the way how House of Wolves iron banner offered you a new way of reaching the maximum level with the etheric light. It felt rewarding and fun way to get those etheric lights. With TTK iron banner you just murdered the illusion of the rewarding experience grinding a week in PvP tournament.
Now you have light 280 legendary items as a reward for such a special event? I dont know what to say..
The addiction: From launch to TTK, I played every single day. And when I didnt play, I would pop up the destiny app and see what the forums had to say about daily missions or would they have a new cheese for the lamp section at crota. In general I had to drop a lot of activities to make time for my beloved new hobby, Destiny.
When TTK launched I had a change in work schedule and I slowly started to realize I should probably give some time to the family and friends too. I made the decicion to slow down with destiny and at the same time not knowing about the time gated exotics.
Now I keep destiny at bay. I keep prowling the forums and wait if they launch the next DLC.. And what are the major changes if any to the game. But with confidence I must say Destiny is done for me. It seemed like a game I would play trough the whole 10 year plan.. But it turns out its not.
Without my addiction I have found a lot of things to do with my life!
Its like my eyes would have been opened from a long sleep..

I love Destiny but have to echo a lot of this. Y1 Weapons Totally agree. Never understood the thought process - "we've made powerful top tier weapons that players love but have decided that they are too powerful so we're taking them away". We played hard to get them and played equally hard once we got them because they were fun. We enjoyed playing the game with those weapons - is that bad? Design equally cool or imaginative weapons to tempt us away then! Y2 Weapons They are lacklustre. Go on admit it. There is a reason people are still harking back to Fatebringer & GHorn. I enjoy using the ZC but that's about it from Y2 so far. Loss of Y1 Content OK most of us have played the VoG and Crota raids a lot but they were still good and the loot was worth it (thanks to Etheric light). Why take all that away? Raiding (or POE) with a fireteam is what kept me hooked. Now there is one raid with a stupid amount of jumping. When did jumping become such a thing! We play to shoot! To blow things up! So now the old raids are pointless but we are still required to patrol the same old areas? That's a little contradictory. HoW got a lot of things right, it added stuff - why did we undo all that good work? TTK has added a lot but we've seemingly lost an equal amount. Loot Holly cow what a grind! You run strikes all night and get a load of blue armour to dismantle. But no weapon parts! I have a load of weapons to upgrade but I'll need to dismantle them for parts to upgrade them! And needing exotic shards as well to infuse exotics was a cheap shot when Xur also stopped selling them. That's effectively forcing us to dismantle Y1 exotics. IB was also a jib. Made it to rank 5 and for my efforts won a total of...3 titan marks. Really? Getting above 300 light seems impossible without doing the raid (where most people regard 300 a minimum).

Thank god they got rid of year 1 weapons and reduced the amount of content i dont think i ever would of stopped playing if they hadnt.
-
The game gets an "expansion" But actually gets shrinked.
This! They haven't expanded anything! There has been the same amount of things to do,with purpose, since day one. When the expansion comes out they make old stuff obsolete.

My brother and I will be moving over to halo this weekend. We were waiting to see how battlefront was and it seems that it's just a nostalgia battlefield star wars game which EA has ruined. 343 seems to actually put alot of content and things to do without forge being implemented at all. I will continue to play destiny from time to time but overall I have become drained, and after this week's update it seems like Bungie is letting these other games take the spotlight for the time being.. I'll be keeping a eye on destiny and seeing where it goes. The division comes out next year too which looks like it could consume alot of my time. Love the open world MMO style with a Tom Clancy spin to it. With that being said learning from the previous hype trains I will not be sucked into pre ordering any games from now on.
-
It took you a day to go from level 34 to 40? That's bad dude. I literally did it on three characters right after the first mission. Total time to get three characters to level 40-32 minutes.

Since I have stopped my addiction to Destiny I have become addicted to Fallout 4 and meth.
-
No one forced you to play, just like no one is keeping you from leaving. While you're at it don't forget to leave the #Destiny on bug off to #Gaming/#OffTopic

Spot on all of it. And it's soured my taste of what bungie is trying to do. Make a mmo pvp experience without charging mmo subscription prices. I never played a mmo before this for a reason. I like too many games and I'm a completionist so I have to collect everything in a rpg and do everything get all trophies/achievements etc. Well I played destiny like a rpg I grinded and enjoyed the -blam!- out of the grind. Then ttk came out. Not only did they shit on all my accomplishments and grinding but then charged me for it. If this is how mmo's are then you mmo warcraft like people are -blam!-ing sheep. I will not be buying destiny 2 no matter how great it looks or how many friends get it. Destiny made me miss too many great AAA games and I won't make that mistake again. I'd still be playing and grinding if they wouldn't of killed my Y1 shit. Let us choose to move on from all of our collected gear and guns, provide us with a better option. Don't nerf all of our shit and force us to use your new shit. Fallout 4 destroys this game in every way. And proves single player experience is still king in gaming

Edited by Gaheris: 11/13/2015 6:29:17 AMSo I just completed my 7th hard mode raid on my hunter and here's what I got. Chest after totems: 319 ghost shell (alright this one's not so bad, I'll give you that. That said it's only the first HM ghost shell I ever got out of 7 runs... pretty sad if you ask me) War Priest: 2 shards. Golgoroth: 2 shards. Sisters: 310 HM class item (ok I must have some luck at Oryx then, right?) Oryx: 310 HM shotgun (no) Yeah, this is it. And the worst part is it took me about 5 hours to complete the whole raid because of bad luck, bad players, people leaving, nobody to recruit in the middle of the night and because they basically all quit Destiny for other games. I'm starting to get really frustrated with the loot system to be honest. I like the raid, I like Destiny but it just doesn't feel rewarding enough. How long will it take us to get to 320 my friends (not that it is necessary by any means, but definitely satisfying)? You'd have to have amazing luck to get there or play hundreds of raids for hundreds of hours... Who wants this, really? I feel like the progression is way too slow. At least make it so you can't loot a weapon or piece of armour under the light level of the one you currently own, please Bungie? I could go on and on but I'm just mad atm. Destiny has become a grind fest like never before...

I don't agree with any of this. I get that work changed for you, and you may have been ignoring real life things because of the game, but I'm not sure what any of that other stuff has to do with anything. It's a game. You play it. Then you go live life. Wasting time worrying about what Bungie "did to you" makes no sense to me. They made a product, you dislike it now. Happens everyday. If your expectations were something else, that's a bummer, but maybe just play the game and don't worry about tomorrow? There are so many "experts" on the gaming industry here. I don't know how all of you don't just get on with it and make your own game. You all seem to know how to do it. Should be a killer game. All weapons unlock immediately. All weapons are "exotic" and have AWESOME rolls. Armor? Try permanent God Mode. All DLC, and heck, the GAME, is free of charge. Raids will all be beatable solo, and available day one. The loot will be top notch for everyone, every time. No one will ever die in PvP mode, because everyone is awesome. Bosses will kneel at your presence. There is one currency, and it will be maxed at all times, you know, so you don't have to grind for it. The story will consist of 30 hours of cut scenes, starring Hollywood's finest, and when pieced together will be nominated for an Oscar. All free, and all super awesome, I'm sure.

My addiction passed as well and it feels so good! I couldn't delete my characters yet, tough ... They're top 1% crucible (rank 12 germany), anyone interested to buy my acc for boasting?
-
I'm addicted to exploring the wasteland though serious! Not even spoke to the dog and I've found like 50 places random power armour in the world and gunned up to fudge! It's like patrol but that matters lol

Basically they made their cash in a massive way - charging for one doc what they had for the previous Two. They knew destiny would have to take a dive eventually and they brilliantly got in before it did. What annoys me is that a game I have absolutely loved and pumped a metric phuk ton of hours into has left me feeling so disappointed in the end. Simply because they fingered us all with the reward system and made everything but 15 drops across three characters useless, and those drops have a double rng essentially. That's just mean.
-
I agree with this, the thing the old raids did well was they got you to the max level after the first few times, but kept you coming back to grind for the weapons. Now you have multiple layers of RNG to go through to even reach max level, let alone get a loadout you actually like.
-
Agreed. IMO HoW was the best DLC because 1. PoE was actually replay able due to the week to week changes 2. All gear was made relevant 3. Legendary guns drop frequently during strikes/crucible 4. U could get different versions of elemental primaries 5. Even after u had achieved max level u could spend hours upon hours re rolling for the perfect gun (instead of praying to RNG). They should've just improved on this instead of starting from scratch. 1. PoE should have an updated version 2. The countless hours I spent grinding away during year 1 should mean more then an emblem and shader 3. Legendary drop frequency should've stayed the same 4. Elemental primaries should've been expanded by allow us to apply burns to any primary of our choosing through the use of a consumable obtainable only by flawless runs (ToO) or HM PVE content. 5. Re rolling should've been expanded to foundry guns (they have limited perk trees anyways) on top of removing OP perks like final round, shot package and rangefinder (shot guns). I personally hate have they removed all elemental primaries because they wanted to expanded the guns we consistently use, but released 1 burn exotic (supercell). Seem to me like they limited us even further. Also the reason we used FB and VoC so much was because of their unique (OP) perk combos, I would love a Y2 FB (imago loop) without the burn, just the perk combo. Only set back for HoW was there was no raid but PoE was still a great PVE option.

I agree. Things have changed. There is no satisfaction in loot, only relief of you get a higher rates gear, or disappointment. Before TTK I would run multiple VOG's and Crota's on the same character a week to help people. It felt good, it was fun, and overall, it felt worth it. Now, for King's Fall, it sucks away your time, and failure often causes conflict within the team. After one run I'm satisfied for the week, I want to help, but sometimes it's just too much. I don't feel as if there is a good enough reason to be there.
-
i believe you. what my belief is, is this it stopped being about the gun and more about the player and your style. i am glad you are spensing more time with your family. this felt like a break up letter, sounds like destiny was a girlfriend or mistress to be honest. i re@d all of what you said and honestly its time to put down the controller my friend.
-
Hello Good for you. This game is a waste of time I'm glad you kicked it. Goodbye
-
yup 2.5k hours never burnt out but now i got no interest in getting a shit ton of 310 drops from hard raid or suffering thru another shit game of pvp
