I love this thread so far. I have tons of questions and things to discuss but im only going to open with one question. When Guardian conquered times conflux, is atheon dead only at that time? Or as a being of time does he continue to exist and "re-exist" as a product of the vault or otherwise across past and furure? As we know from HoW we killed him but in TTK we return as per the FWC request following the retrieval of preadyths ghost to take atheons eye. (Currently i am of the belief that we are instructed to loot atheons ?corpse? But for the purpose of gameplay we do the VoG raid.)

Atheon exists outside of time, or rather the apex of all possible times. Several versions of the timelines contain Guardians that decide to enter the Vault of Glass. Several versions beat Atheon. Some enter sooner then others, but all of those that defeat Atheon defeat a valid and existing Atheon. Yet Atheon can only exist outside of time...therefore he can fall only once. That is what Time's Vengeance is. Its every Guardian that has ever shot him... shooting him at once. This is because there is only one Aegis, because the Aegis was created with Kabr's Light and Gorgon material. Atheon is dead, but he is also not dead because he needs to be alive when the future people beat him. So re-entering the Vault of Glass is just repeating the Paradox.

  • Neat. Makes sense(as much sense as paradox' possibly can at least). Rather than respond in two different places ill just keep it all here. Quria was created(?) By the vex to understand sword logic and the black garden is the result. So essentially if left unchecked the vex could reach ascendant hive power and/or Taken strength? Furthurmore in the paradox mission we learn from preadyth (in the daily heroic only part of the mission) that the taken vex is their unavoidable future in which atheons purpose was to avert? I may have misunderstood things as they were introduced to me but do you have clarification and reasoning here?

  •
So essentially if left unchecked the vex could reach ascendant hive power and/or Taken strength?
Yup. Although Oryx put a stop to Quria, he gave it to his sister to study because he thought its attempts comical. Its also worth noting that sword-logic dictates we, the guardian, are now ascendant Hive because we, already deemed gods by the Deep because we defeated Atheon, beat Oryx.
In the paradox mission we learn from preadyth (in the daily heroic only part of the mission) that the taken vex is their unavoidable future in which atheons purpose was to avert?
Praedyth's Vision [from the FWC golden age device?] was of unrelenting Darkness. We were essentially seeing his vision a reality when fighting all of those Taken before getting the chest. The rest of that mission talks about why the Vex joined the Darkness. They saw their own demise. That is why they tried to write themselves as a law of reality with the Vault of Glass, because laws are constants. The City put a stop to that, so the Vex turned to something that promised survival, the Darkness's Sword-Logic.

  • How has their attempt in the sword logic going then? Wasnt the black heart the culmination of their efforts? And what of their machinization of mercury and venus(and mars were the cabal not there to stop them)? To what end is that effort? Also more importantly, oryx arrived in system as a response to the death of crota. Currently every ranking member of the cabal is dead or fleeing. Is there any information as to how the empire will respond to such crushing defeat?
