Off On a Tangent! Side Stories Around the Arc: Cayde-6 vs. Banshee-44 #1

Cayde yawned and stratched his side as he walked up the stairs from the Vanguard Hall. He was just finishing up a late night of paper filing in order to have the day 100% off from his leadership duties. He scanned the area as a few citezens from the City below walked around the Tower, looking around. His eyes adjusted to the morning light as a glint of the sun peeped through a cloud. He turned his head and saw his old friend Banshee-44 standing at his station as usual. Cayde wandered over out of sheer boredom. "Morning Bansh." "Cayde-6." Banshee's dark blue skin with yellow streaks stood out amongst other Exos. His eyes simply glanced around from time to time to look at everything around him, an old habit from his smuggling days. This Exo believed in practicality and his little to no movements were no exception. "So ah..." Cayde tapped the counter infront of him. "Watcha gonna be doing today buddy?" "Probably stand here, possibly give a few a chance to shoot a real gun if they deserve it." "Oh alright." Cayde rocked on the back his heels slightly like a child waiting for something. "I don't have any new weapons in. You saw the stock yesterday." "No no not that... It's just... let's be honest Banshee you need a break." "A break? I'm already falling apart as is. I don't need more breaks." "No! I meant have some fun! Come watch the fights or the races! It will be loads of fun!" Banshee's lights dimmed as his eyes slanted slightly. "Your just saying that so you can get behind the counter." "What?! Me?! Banshee seriously now, you know me." "That's why this conversation frightens me." "Come on now!" Cayde slapped his hands on the counter top. "There's more to life than this station." "You know better than most that I know the world out there." "I meant recently, not in your prime 100 years ago." It was only 20 years ago..." "Actually 26, my dear compadre." "What's your point?" "Follow. I can show you the world! The shining shimmering Glimmer! Tell me Banshee now when did you last left this d*** station?" Banshee blinked. "What was that?" "You didn't like it?..." Cayde sighed. "I thought it was clever for a parody on the spot." "I'll just stay here." "Oh come on! What will it take for me to get you out of this spot?" Banshee paused. He thought for a moment. "You could beat me at a draw-off?" "Draw-off?..." Cayde's Ghost popped up and held its notepad up. "No no he means a draw off like with guns." Cayde's Ghost whimpered a bit and hung itself downward sadly. "Besides I'd lose to you in a heartbeat." Banshee laughed a little. "You draw pretty quick." The Ghost perked up slightly in pride. "Thank you, thank you!" It said from its collection of audio files. "Anyway, I think you would lose Bansh." "Pardon?" "Well I was the fastest crack draw this side of the wall for a long time." Cayde rubbed his robotic fingers against his chestpiece and looked at them. "Back in your prime 100 years ago? And if you were the fastest this side, I'm suprised you were still alive with all the stuff on the outside." "Ha ha ha... Seriously Banshee, you would lose." "Is that a challenge?" "Its a bet, old buddy." Several Guardians slowly began to drift over while the conversation drew on. Many where Hunters of Titans, all of them either liking one or both. "What kind of bet?" Banshee shifted his weight to one side. "I win, you have to follow me to the fights and have a good time... and own me 500 Glimmer." "Sounds decent... What about if I win?" Cayde paused. "There's no way! But I will humor you, what do you want?" "500 Glimmer and a day where you help me do my work." Cayde snorted. "That's steep. 500 Glimmer AND work? That's ridiculous." "Well if you are sooo cocky? You have nothing to worry about." Cayde thought about this. "Come on Cayde, you can beat him." One Hunter said. "Yea, you got this." "Alright alright." Cayde gestured for them to settle down. "Deal." He held out his hand. Banshee shook it. The two placed down their Glimmer on one side of the counter and faced each other once more. "Alright let's get going!" "Hold on." Banshee held up his hand. "Ground rules first." Cayde snapped his fingers. "Well darn I thought I would get to cheat..." "No cheating." Banshee said sternly. "And no cheap shots, there are civilians here." "Fair enough. Any specific gun?" "You can use your Ace." Cayde paused and placed his hand on the black and white Ace of Spades resting at his side. "Wait... letting me use my hand cannon, that YOU custom made for Hunters? Dude you will so lose!" "Sure. As long as I get to use this." Banshee pulled an old golden hand cannon out of a box. The Tex Mechanica symbol was slightly faded as was the paint job but this Last Word still worked tried and true. Cayde gaunked. "No... no fair!" "Hey. Exotic verses Exotic. Let's see how the new 'crack shot' beats the old fashion tech." Cayde grinned. He drew the hand cannon and placed it on the table. "You got it gramps." Banshee wiped the slight dust off the barrel and checked the chamber before placing it on the table as well. The two stared at each other as the crowd grew. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/175309936/0/0 link to part 2
