Ok, I am really not ok with a lot of the crap that Bungie has pulled lately, but in regards to old raids not being relevant...I have to ask you one thing.
Have you ever played an MMO? Ever? WoW? Guild wars? Everquest? Old content becomes irrelevant all the time. It's just how it goes when a game is constantly growing and being expanded on. So I suggest you get over that sooner rather than later. Otherwise, butts will hurt. That being said, I wish the old strikes would be made into heroics. That is just silly.
So while I'm right there with you on these in-asked-for BS changes, I just had to ask that question.

I did play EQ, and it isn't a fair comparison to Destiny. However EQ did give you reasons to go back and play old content. Some items were timeless.

Guild Wars? What content has become irrelevant?
-
Destiny is not an MMO. Let's clear that up.

Hey, you know what, you're right! Destiny is an MMO and thus, the level should be capped at 100, gear should be dropping 5 times more frequently, raids must take a minimum of 4 hours and 12 people to complete, bosses should be an hour long affair, players should be given a minimum of 24 different usable abilities at once and... Oh whats that? Its a First Person Shooter first according to Bungie? Well okay, if we apply the MMO elements to it, you're only allowed to use one gun and one armor set. If it gets boring then PSH, you're just not playing it right.

One thing though...citing WoW...they've bumped up old content a number of times: Ony being redone from vanilla, Scholo and I think Strat were redone also from vanilla, all of outland was reworked for this latest expansion, transmog made grinding old gear just for its look into a thing for people - and let's not forget timewalking weekends Old content is a HUGE resource pool, that in most cases people are already fond of and probably missing. Bringing it back, even if it's ...later... is in most cases a damn good idea

It'd be better if we had our old gear to progress further into the game but the jump from 34 to 40 was so quick. Especially with all the Redbull stuff. It'd be best if it was a bit slower to progress but people were already maxed level by the time the raid came around. Bungie/Activisions goal is to keep people around, and one way of doing so is buy quick leveling. Y1, prior to TDB was a grind but it was more rewarding when the drops came. Now it's just, "here is a timed exotic, farm this material and bam! It's yours." The previous exotic quest, while a bit tedious where more challenging.

Screw MMOs!

If it was an mmo I'd be fine, but this game never has been an mmo and never will be which is why the old content should still be just as relevant today.
-
IMO there is not enough content in TTK to have made all yr1 activities irrelevant. All they had to do was increase the lvl and offer any yr2 relevant rewards.

I agree with you there isnt nearly enough content to make 2 raids and the poe to become irrelevant. I could understand every three dlcs the first dlc becomes irrelevant.
