This community is a battered wife and Bungie is the abusive husband....

Before I get started for those of you who are not aware I regret to inform you that Gamespot released an article today covering the future of DLC content in Destiny. This is a direct quote from the article.
Destiny's microtransactions and paid expansions are both selling well, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said on an earnings call today, November 3. As such, Destiny players can expect to see more of both in the future.
So the microtransactions....the microtransactions that were supposedly implemented to fund future content is going to stay....but we will all still have to fork out money for DLC. Yet there is very little outrage over this prime example of consumer abuse. So that brings me back to my analogy. The Kotaku article sheds light on the fact that Bungie and Activision cut up Vanilla Destiny to be sold separately. The forums barely bat an eye. The article shows that not only was the game cut up, but that it was cut up for the sole purpose of being sold separately at a premium just so they could squeeze more money out of us. Any normal community would have been up in arms over such a revelation. The torches and pitchforks would be lit and the forums would have burned to the ground. But no. Not this community. You all just shrugged and kept moving forward. Oh well. Its not Bungie's fault. Its all Activision. Bungie loves us and wants to be good to us they just can't. So I am just gonna keep playing and hope it gets better. I know Bungie can change. I kry errytim. Microtransactions are introduced into a game that most of us have paid over $120 for Once again mild outrage from a handful of players, but overall this community just rolls over and takes it in the ass with pleasure. Thank you Bungie senpai for this great gift. They cut content and set it aside to be sold separately at a premium YET AGAIN and no one seems to really care. Some even naively believe that the microtransactions would lead to free DLC in the future. The rest of you all just shrug and then say well its not Bungie's fault. Its cl;early just Activision. Bungie wants to love us and be good to us, but they just can't. So I am gonna keep playing and hope it gets better. I know Bungie can change. I kry errytim Every misstep and every abuse is almost immediately forgiven and shoved aside in favor of blind hope and naive support. Each and every time they abuse or take advantage of the community you all just shrug and make excuses for them. You say its not their fault or that its just how the game business works. Or that they HAVE to make money somehow right? NO OTHER GAME WORKS LIKE DESTINY DOES AND NO OTHER GAME HAS TROUBLE MAKING MONEY. PLENTY OF GAMES MAKE PLENTY OF MONEY AND STILL DON'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEIR PLAYERBASE. Witcher 3 for example released over a dozen FREE DLC packs and their entire season pass was $25. The latest DLC called "Hearts of Stone" got a better review score than ANY of the Destiny content that has been released and yet it only costs $10. Bethesda is another prime example. They have released games like Fallout 3 and Skyrim all to critical and FINANCIAL success. They released quality DLC for a fair price and they made a FORTUNE. Bioware released Mass Effect 3 with quality DLC for a fair price and even threw in FREE multiplayer DLC packs every month or so. Yet it was the most financially successful game in the franchise. You people need to wake the -blam!- up and look around you. Look at all the games that have been released since Destiny launched and look at how many have used the kind of underhanded tactics that has been used with Destiny. Stop using "Business" as an excuse as if it alleviates ALL abuses. Stop using your hours played as an excuse as if you are in too deep to be treated with respect. Stop shrugging your -blam!-ing shoulders as if there is nothing you can do. Stop acting like there is nothing wrong. Stop acting like Bungie owns your -blam!-ing dignity and self respect just because you happen to like the game. And for the love of god stop forgiving them every single time they decide to abuse your trust as a consumer. You are just like a battered wife that loves her husband too much to realize that he is a steaming pile of abusive shit and that you can do BETTER for yourself and that you DESERVE to be treated better. For -blam!- sake.

It's funny, if you look at destiny there's honestly not much content... Strikes, short horrible story, crucible and raids. It just feels like a lot because we just grind and rerun this content over and over... Love this game but there needs to be changes. How they manage to take a step forward and then immediately take one backwards is beyond me. >most exotics are now effected by shaders but cloaks or other class items aren't. >make old raid weapons relevant and just decide not to in TTK. >non OP exotics that are loved by many are not made year 2 (mida, NLB, Vex, necrochasm) >claim to want to take away the grind but yet make weapon parts scarce and quests that are literally farming materials for hours. >talk about RNG improvements yet RNG is more unforgiving and heartless then ever.

I am enjoying playing Destiny, but even now its not the game I imagined it to be. I dont feel that I got value for money when compared to other games, and I only play this becuase my friends still play it, and its cool to play with your mates. I bought one dance the Thriller, but I doubt they will see any more money out of me. Fallout 4 I expect to meet or exceed my expectations, however I thought the same of Destiny, so we shall see.

You're right. The best way to fight back is to not play. I already uninstalled Destiny. The last week seeing people pay for emotes gave me a vision on where this game was going. Even so when Luke Smith told us to pretty much buy Destiny again with the 2 expansions we paid for already cause if we saw the dances moves and Year 1 Exotic Class items we would "Throw money at our screen." There are games like Warframe who have a much smaller budget and they give this stuff away for free. It's not a sense of entitlement. It's a good practice. Game Developers give you stuff to appreciate you. Not make you dish out more money. Look at Battlefield 4. They just let the community vote on a map and gave it to everyone FOR FREE. Regardless, you can lead horse to water but you can't make him drink. That's how I feel about most people in these forums. Fan boy Goggles blinding then to the truth. The moment Bungie sees a drastic player base drop, they'll bend over backwards to give back to the community. And I'm not talking Holiday events that turn into "grind this for that mask etc" This is hands down the worst community I have seen in gaming. Wake up.

              •
Yet there is very little outrage over this prime example of consumer abuse.
Because it isn't consumer abuse, and it's ridiculous to think that it is. - Bungie never stated that they wouldn't continue to produce DLC/expansions for sale. It was speculated that money from microtransaction sales would go toward funding future content, but as far as I know that was unconfirmed and based on 2nd hand accounts from an IGN interview. That of course doesn't mean that it isn't true, but it also doesn't mean that microtransactions were ever going to be the only way additional content was funded. - It's very possible that microtransactions are allowing Bungie to do smaller events (like last weeks Halloween event) that might not otherwise fit into their budget/timetable. - It's unlikely that microtransactions of the type we've seen in the game so far would have ever generated enough money to pay for the kind of content we saw with TDB and HoW . While I don't think anyone would have described either of those expansions as a great value or packed full of content, I also don't think it's realistic to expect that much content to be financed by microtransactions and released for free. - There's no consumer abuse happening here. Bungie offered a game for sale. They offered 3 expansions for sale. They've offered emotes for sale. They've delivered on all of that. Despite what you may think, no promises were broken. No fraud took place. The idea that there's some kind of argument for consumer abuse is absurd and fueled by nothing except entitlement. I know people here like to immediately dismiss any argument that includes the word entitlement, but that's all this is. You paid for a game and got a game. You paid for expansions and got expansions. You paid for emotes and got emotes. Now you feel like you're entitled to more without paying, and you're ready to claim abuse because you haven't gotten it. Thats entitlement.

                • The more I play destiny the more I wonder why I left playing on private servers for shaiya. It may have been pay to win but most private severs were player focused and never had to pay one cent for all the fun I had. The graphics may have been poor but again it was free.

This is a casual player base, of course casuals don't care, they have better things to do. Any real gamer has basically said this 2-3weeks after the release of Destiny and then quit a couple months later.

                  • Bethesda - Horse armor. Mass Effect 3 - an entire character and key lore mission relegated to the collector's edition. Everyone is out to make money. You make your choice - do I like this game enough to pay what they ask for or do I move on to one of the many other games around? No gun to your head.

                    • I'd bet money it is 75% Bungie's fault and the rest Activision. Want to know how I know this? Activision publishes Diablo 3 and that game screwed it's fans over but then fixed it and now gives crap out for free all the damn time and completely changes the game and yet still free. The last thing you had to pay for in Diablo 3 was Reaper of Souls and the game isn't anything like it was when that released. So no Bungie is no longer the company it was in the days of Halo (most of the people left) and now they are run by people like Luke Smith who really want you to throw money at the screen.

                    • Amen, can't believe people are actually sticking up for Bungie even in the comments below, finally done with this game until something changes because paying £120 for a game and THEN still having to pay microtransactions on top of that? Pathetic.

Hell I'm not even mad anymore and am actually quite impressed. Bungie managed to chop up a game, sell it to people without the game itself making any sense at all, sell the half-baked DLC for a minimal amount of content, nerf any type of progression to give the illusion of content, AND introduce microtransactions, while still managing to keep the sheep defending the game at every corner. It really is impressive when you are back and look at the big picture.
