Hey all, hopefully a helpful 'heads up' to those Guardians out there (like me!) who are perpetually stuck on virtually zero weapon parts - you can actually get them for Glimmer!
But how? I hear you cry - Well my friends, it's easy - just buy any Exotic weapon you already unlocked! Cost = 2,500 Glimmer and a Shard, but you get the shard back, along with a few weapon parts as well, when you dismantle it.
Caveat - the exchange rate is pretty lousy, costing 2,500 for just 3 or 4 Weapon Parts, but for those situations where you are just a few short of getting that last upgrade you want/need, then it could be a God send (I.e. just before a Raid run or a Trials match etc) and for when you just can't face another hour of grinding the Court to get the last few you need :)
And hey, what else are we going to spend Glimmer on anyway? ;)
So there we go, it's expensive, and less than ideal, but it IS possible to buy Weapon Parts for Glimmer.
Hope it helps Guardians!
Edit 1 - Some great ideas all, will update the main post as soon as I get chance (probably at home etc) to include all the helpful advice too! Thanks all who contributed!
Edit 2 - Compulsory 'we are trending' edit ;)
Edit 3 - WE HAVE BEEN HEARD lol As of the November update, we can apparently buy Weapon Parts from the Gunsmith!
Hopefully this thread helped a few people along the way though, and big thanks to all that contributed to the knowledge base here :)

I've got 1600 weapon parts, only scrubs and casuals are low.
-
When TTK dropped I burned about 400 into leveling dead orbit, week 2 I swapped to new monarchy and burned the other 600. The famine got real lol.
-
I do the same thing. I shouldn't have to though, which is the real problem.
-
Stop doing this bungie will think we're coping fine with the nerf and won't do anything about it
-
The recession is almost over :'D
-
I wish I could get weapon parts because I have a shit load of glimmer but no weapon parts
-
And this is irrelevant soon lol
-
They just announced today that you will be able to buy them from the gunsmith as of the next update. No word on the exchange rate, but I'm happy. Let the grind for weapon parts end and the grind for glimmer begin!!!
-
This thread will die with the november update...
-
Run strikes. About 12 consecutive strikes should get you a good amount. Or simply keep grinding. Court of Oryx, PvP, strikes. This is what the game is about. How do you think people have over 500 weapons parts? Grinding. If you don't have the luxury of grinding, then quite simply the game is not for you. I don't think destiny is kind to casual players.

You're on to something because everytime I get onto play, I'm almost maxed glimmer and buy a few heavy ammo synth to get it down to 19/20K and by the time I'm done playing, my glimmer is maxed again. I have tons of anmo synths, so now I can instead buy exotic weapon and shard it and get an exotic shard in addition to the weapon parts. This could be good
-
Banshee will be selling weapon parts in the next patch this month lol.
-
First glimmer. Then silver.
-
According to this weeks update, we will be able to buy them from gunsmith with the next patch
-
Load up on Armsday orders too. Equip Armsday Primary and Special, Exotic Heavy, and put about 10 Motes into it. Yields ~20 Weapons Parts
-
Can't you buy cheap Vanguard greens.

Edited by Alex The Phalax: 11/5/2015 6:06:58 PMSomething I do to keep my supply fresh is hoard up a couple of legendary weapons buy telematrys and spam my motes each legendary gives like 6 or so when maxed. (Easier to lvl up special and heavies) 5 marks and some motes in return so you can continue on for a good amount of time Note:If you can get a team of 3 do the omnigul strike lvl16 and kill her at the hill then wipe your guranteed 2 blues and if lucky a legendary. Takes no more than 2 mins to kill if a good team
-
We know. And your post is around 1,000 words too long
-
NOW WE CAN FROM THE GUNSMITH!
-
Oh good lord according to the BWU we might be able to.
-
Why the struggle for weapons parts? I have about 1200 lying around?
-
Uh oh.....I can see the next patch notes already. "Fixed issue where dismantling of exotic weapons were not functioning as intended."
-
Exotics should give more weapon parts, imo. Heck, I get motes out of my legendaries. Cool tip, I guess.
-
I do 15 gunsmith orders per week - depending upon whether I want to keep any of them, that's up to 75 parts and 75 legendary marks a week. The downside is that the bill comes to 37,500 glimmer :-/
-
Go grind court of Oryx with a friend. The more the merrier, but 2 keeps it going. Blues for days
-
The fact that people are willing to spend 2500 glimmer for 3-4 weapon parts show how ridiculously broken the weapon parts economy is in Destiny. I can't believe they nerfed weapon parts from dismantling weapons. Such a joke.
