Nothing beats it. It's essentially a portable orbital strike. You get an over shield, and can use it at further ranges, making it much more difficult to go up against. With defender, it was just a shotgun and a melee (and maybe another shotgun). Can't do that to sunbreakers. They get you from further range, because of course Titans require no skill. I feel as though my point has been made. I actually switched my main because I thought storm trance was too weak.
