It's a new concept for FPS games, true. But outside the FPS games all I really play are:
- RPGs: which have more story to chew on and normally a very defined progression to them.
- Adventure games: Batman, Tomb Raider, etc., I play for the story, not the mechanics, and IMHO there have been very few games in the last 2 years that hold my attention.
- Racing Sims: even though I'm somewhat out of this genre as well.
In any case I've gone from 20+ games a year to about 5-7, mostly because I've changed my habits. I only buy after reviews and gameplay footage are in, I never pre-order (Gamestop is one of the single biggest obstacle in the console gaming scene). I don't let hipe get to me on games. Heck, I did pre-order Halo 5 but I love the Halo series, especially since 343 took over, I saw and played the beta and, honestly, it cost me 1/2 price because I split it with my brother.

I like the Gears of War series. The story was pretty good. Hopefully 4 will be good as well.
