Played Halo last night. Have to say I'm not worried for Destiny based on that experience. I'll maybe spend about a week or so on the solo campaign, but only if I get hooked, which hasn't happened yet. I think another aspect of it is that Halo doesn't really seem like a loot and acquire game. I know there are things you can get, but it's worse than the last round of IB, which was bad IMO. Halo is more communistic in that you don't really own weapons. You use yours until you run out of ammo, then kill someone/thing and then use theirs. A little like the start of Enemy at the Gates.

  • Nah, you're just wrong. I'm not a huge MP guy, but Holo's MP is so much better than Destiny, and the ranking is what people grind for in that game. It doesn't ask you to play boring missions over and over, and the story is also much better in Halo. Destiny and Halo are very different in their single player, but I think this Halo has longevity in its MP and Destiny's MP continues to be unbalanced, laggy garbage.

  • Nope, not wrong; I just think we're looking for different things in a game. To me Destiny is a game you move into and live for a long time. Halo is more like a vacation, but you know you're going to go home at the end. Also I like getting loot and trying out a wide variety of weapons and gear with different perks. I don't get that from Halo. The idea of grinding for rank sounds incredibly tedious and boring to me. But it sounds like it works for you. If so, that's great, enjoy your game. But I don't think Halo is going to scratch the itch, long term, for people who've spent a lot of time in Destiny because they reward different things. If you like Halo's PVP, then maybe that's where your longevity will be. But for me, once I get through the campaign, I'm pretty much done. I don't think I can run it again and hope for different loot. That's where running the same missions over is a surprising strength for Destiny. I think that the longevity for me is in Destiny. Had Destiny been more like Halo, I doubt we'd still be playing it and talking about it. So maybe I was wrong for you, but not for me.

I think we are looking for the same things from a game. I'm just saying that Halo's longevity will come from its MP. I don't care about grinding for ranks in MP, but a lot of people will. It's the Trials of Osiris crowd. Halo is much better and much more balanced for MP. I'm a PvE guy myself. I have played a lot of Destiny PvE and grinded for a lot of loot, but I've grown pretty tired of the endless wheel of grind for gear that doesn't seem that special anymore and has a lot of variability in how it will drop, resulting in a lot of disappointment and a perception of wasted time. Fallout 4 will give me that PvE, loot based, rpg that is really my bread and butter for gaming, and Halo gives me the scratch to that shooter itch I get, and I can get off the scheduled, time consuming hamster wheel that is Destiny. Many of the changes in TTK are just there to try to increase player time in game. I'm tired of a game that asks me to play hours a day every day, and then do all the same things again next week, over and over. Especially since I can't really save or pause. That's just me, though. I haven't had any experience with MMOs, and I don't like how that mechanic requires me to allow it to control my schedule and time.

  • I certainly agree that Halo's longevity will come from MP. And I kinda get what you're saying. There are times when I'll be like I'm done for awhile, but so far it's always pulled me back. And also, full disclosure, I was REALLY disappointed with Destiny initially. But it won me over. So maybe Halo will surprise me yet. I just haven't seen that yet. And I'm also looking forward to Fallout 4. Prior to WoW and Destiny, Fallout 3 was the first game that I started to be aware that I was really spending a lot of time in that game. Of course it was probably one of the first ones that was kind of in your face about your total time played.

  • Yeah, I still trying to get my head around them. From my understanding it seems like they're mostly cosmetic though?

  • Only played Warzone briefly, but the Req packs unlock new primary weapons you can req in game. They also provide 1 time only reqs for Super Weapons and Vechiles, unless you unlock the certidfication.

  • I agree with some of what you said, especially on the campaign, hasnt gripped me yet (however I havent done much). However I had to respond for the awesome film reference, brilliant movie, and I laughed at the reference.
