I think Furbys came right after too. I think they were even able to market tomogochis to both boys and girls, because I think I remember guys having them as well. On a side note, I find it funny that I got my first M rated game I think after I turned 18. Not because I was never allowed, but because there really was no M rated games until I was that age, and I never even had a console then either, just some gameboy stuff. So when I worked at a store that also sold video games, I'd always get a kick out of a kid wanting to buy call of duty or w/e.
