I'm totally fine with no elemental primaries. Towards the end of House of Wolves Fatebringer+Black Hammer+Gjallarhorn got pretty stale.

Thing is, people didn't play with those because of the burn. They played with those because they outclassed every weapon of the same archetype. The element was just extra.
