If every raid primary had elemental damage, everyone would use exactly the same nightfall weapons like in year one. Arc burn? Fatebringer. Solar? Vision of confluence.

What other options were there for elemental primaries though?

With house of wolves, trials gear.

Agreed, but what's the point of end game activities that don't drop the best loot. Trials gear is now most likely gonna be sh1t. So getting to the lighthouse, which is now supposedly even more difficult due to matchmaking changes, is completely unnecessary!
