Don't worry, once all primary burns are eliminated, it will be like they never happened, therefore it will be the new norm, therefore, nobody will really expect a weapon to have elemental damage

And it's not like the vets will bother sticking around with the half assing design that bungie is putting forward, so it's win/win. Bungie gets players who don't know any better, old players move on to better games coming out.

The general slide in rewards, yes, will drive players away. Having little to nothing to offer players other than timegates means people may log in, see nothing new (or just check reddit), and find something else to play. All stick and no carrot makes for poor gameplay.
