You seem to be confused on what setting actually means. Setting, in the literary sense is the time and location a story takes place. So the setting is the future on earth, Mars etc. And as far everything else you said, that is all opinion. An opinion that I do not share. My game experience would not be improved by any of your examples. And that is my opinion. So back to my original point, story isn't for everyone. Destiny "needing" story is a moot point.
