So my theory is this Mara Sov is or may have been Taox. To Begin: This is how The Taken King opening cinematic looked to me the first time I saw it. It’s all up to you now.[/quote] Taox Sterile Mother: The mothers I believe were the original/proto wizards, longer lived than most of their species, and maybe some powers. Taox betrays the royal family but does so to protect the people from their follies. She does so in grief and I believe with more than a little self-disgust but will do so for the greater good. Yes she does ask to be made regent but I don’t get the sense this was just a greedy power play. I think she did not want outsiders to rule over her people, her children. When the three Sisters return they conquer Fundament and then the Ammonites, The Dakaua, and finally the Ecumene. Taox like the Traveler ran from the Hive/Darkness keeping one step ahead until she came to the Sol system. She was there when the Traveler sacrificed itself to save humanity. Somewhere between Mars and Jupiter running humans and Taox are all caught up in the event and she is reborn Awoken. The Awoken of the reef lived a hidden and secretive existence until they came out to attack The House of Wolves. I think Mara did this less to save The City but to repay a debt to her old traveling companion The Traveler. So like The Traveler she decided to not run this time when Oryx came she would fight to protect her new people the Awoken. She knew it would come down to this since Aurash went down the pit to the worm, when Auryx returned corrupted, and Oryx became king. So that’s my theory take it or leave it.
