You've got to kill all adds first.
There's three mini bosses that spawn, first Knights, then Centurions, then Captain's.
Wipe all blights first, then Psions, then Knights. Then shoot the boss, and another wave will spawn, with Centurions, and so on until you do all three waves. After that, they will stop spawning and you can focus on the boss.

When you're at the home screen and hit the menu in the tip left, there's a letter icon three spaces to the right of it when it's open. It's your mailbox.
