When people call it a "gateway drug", that is a statistical myth. By saying that because someone smoked weed they rhen smoked meth is the same as me saying coffee is a "gateway drug" to baileys/kaluha.. Makes no sense right? If someone has tendencies to go further and further with anything then yes, you would see them transition from weed to other drugs.
