Destiny and the Bible

I have seen apparent similarities between Destiny and the Bible in general. For example: The collapse is like the Fall of Man. The Guardians are like Christians fighting sin. The Speaker is like the Bible itself, since he is sort of like the Traveler's word, and the Bible is God's word. Also, with TTK's recent release, the Darkness closes in, but the Light fights back and wins, which is like Jesus' return. The different factions are like different theological views. If you do not believe in Jesus, God, or that the Bible is true, please be respectful and do not post hateful comments and just make a fool of yourself. Believe what you want. I also realize that this doesn't completely align with Destiny's lore, and you need to understand that I am making this understandable for the average Destiny player. Have a nice day and God bless you.

      • Most of the holy texts around the world share a lot of common similarities; as conquering tribes and warlords in the past absorbed local religions into their own. Ever wondered why Greek and Roman religions share an almost identical pantheon? So yes, your analysis of the parallels between the Christian faith and the iconic figures/characters of Destiny is more than valid.

Kudos to you for trying to have a conversation about the game you play and how your views affect they way you see the story. People keep remarking that this conversation needs to be moved to off topic but I think it's more on topic then a lot of post here. You see the destiny story through your view of the world and wanted to talk about it. I don't understand why people can't do that . Instead they have attacked you for your beliefs and make fun them. Good job on not being the average sheepel who does not have anything in their life that they are passionate about or worse the ones who spit out so much hate at anyone that does not conform to their views.

          • The beauty of religion is you can fit it into everything you can imagine and see the similarities. Not because they are there... Just because you are looking for them. I'm a programmer. I create code that can create or destroy. My code can come in many forms. If I created a true AI it would be intelligent and self aware. It may even believe I exist even though I never tell it I do. It could never speak to me. I could communicate in ways it would never understand and it would only see my words as actions or feel them as feelings. It could maybe even go as far as to hear my voice to an extent but it would just sound like noise. It'd never make sense. I could even bring the code back or totally reset it and it would be none the wiser. May even believe it has a limited life span when in reality it just starts all over again. Does that make me a god? Hardly. Does that story fit a large portion of multiple religions? Probably. Is it possible? Eventually. Maybe even now. I'm far too lazy to find out.

Well really, if you get right to the core, the very essence of both are very similar. It's simply because the idea of good/pure vs. evil/corrupt in any story can be directed back to The Word of God. This doesn't mean that Bungie went directly to it for themes but simply followed their nature as story tellers and wanted to tell the story of good vs. evil. This urge to do so has been around since we learned how to tell stories and it will most likely never cease. We are obsessed with it. Do you know why? We understand that good is...well good and want good to succeed. Our cup is never full though, we tell the same thing over and over and over again and again and again. The only difference is the packaging. Star Wars, LotR, Attack on Titan, Batman. They all tell the same thing. Good must win. Now I understand, this is much broader than what you ask. I'm simply saying that if you really get down to it, the Word of God is the root of it. Anyways so back to your post. Here's another example: If you read the Books of Sorrow, it tells a story of a being who sought after dark power, soled her soul for it and denied her very self and in turn became Oryx. He then created the hive. This is a great example of something that is good turned into evil by corruption. Life is a good thing and Oryx's purpose is to wipe out all life in the entire universe.

Guys ever notice how the Itsy Bitsy Spider is similar to Destiny. The first verse talks about how the Itsy Bitsy Spider climbed up the water spout. This allusion to success by traversing long distances is very similar to how man discovered the traveler on Mars, which began the Golden Age. Down came the rain and washed the spider out. This passage is a reference to the darkness who nearly wiped out humanity. Out came the sun and dried up all the rain This is present day. This is when the Traveler created the Ghost in order to find Guardians to combat the darkness. Hence the Sun, which is the source of light, much like the Traveler who made Guardians out of light. and the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again. This passage reveals our resolve. Out of the seemingly endless and devistating rain, we the feeble itsy bitsy spiders rise from the brink of extinction and thrive in a new Era of progression!
Archetypal Pattern <3
Largest similarity is the fact that they are both fiction.
