Caleb nodded. "Yup. She would get the eggs herself. Girlfriend mimics it pretty well too."

Alice leans back. "Pretty long distance to go for eggs, don't you think? They hunters are they?"
-
Caleb shook his head. "Neither, but used to live on the streets. We learned hoe to adapt pretty quick."
-
"Must be pretty quick to be able to take down a Ahamkara from Venus without the light to help them." Alice says, becoming confused.
A Ahamkara are the bird things you see flying around Venus.
"Unless you took or bought them from others." She continues.

"She was pretty fast. It was harder for her at first, but it became easier over time. The days she failed to catch one, we had to scrounge ourselves."
-
"Wait," Alice says, holding up her hands. "you were here, on Venus, during the collapse of the planets and invasion of the Darkness?!" Alice throws her hands up, fist pumping the air. "That is so awesome!"
-
Caleb nodded. "Yup, was here from birth till about 18. Difficult times here though. Wasn't always easy."
-
"What was it like?" Alice asks, leaning forward to learn more information.
-
Caleb winced. It was a bit painful and hard talking about the past to ANYONE. He took a deep breath. "I was born and raised here on Venus. Had a house, food, everything someone would want." Caleb grimaced. "Then Dad died, Mom completely lost her mind, and thieves burned our house to the ground. Lucky to make it out alive." Caleb paused before continuing. "From then on, we lived on the streets. Rogues. Outcasts. Nobody cared about us, we didn't care about them. Had to learn to scavenge, hunt, fend for ourselves. It was rough, but we managed." Caleb looked Alice directly in the eyes. "Then the Collapse came, and I don't remember anything after that, besides waking up in the Cosmodrome, joining the Vanguard and such."
-
Alice looks into the embers of the dwindling fire. "I remember little about my life before the collapse. I have no idea who I was, what I was doing on the Forgotten Shore when my ghost found me, for all I know, someone I loved could have died, like you." She shakes her head, her shoulder-length brown hair shaking with it, then reaches for something around her neck. "When Aprill found me, I had this around my neck." Holds up a blood soaked charm for Caleb to see. "The blood is old but still partly wet, even now. It never seems to come off when I wash it. I only wonder who's blood soaks the charm."

-
Maybe. Alice thinks to herself. Or I'm the one who gave the rough time. "Yeah." Alice actually says, ridding herself of the thought. "Doesn't everyone nowadays? The days when we aren't shooting something, we're planning and surviving. Sometimes even planning to shoot something to survive."
-
Caleb let out a laugh. "A vicious cycle, isn't it? Ya get used to it after awhile."
-
"We all do." She says, turning her gaze back to the coals. Obviously deep in thought about everything they just said. Silence settles over, waiting for someone to break it.
