It's a difference in culture. We have cakes, tarts, and sweet pies. We also have meat pies and pies made for meals (chicken pies, Shepard's pie, Steak pie).

I was joking. Hence the :P I'm very well informed on the subject. I've lived in both the UK and the U.S. And Mexico incidentally. No pies there though sadly.
