Agreed. I don't buy the "they are using the money to make more free dlc!" Argument. Bungie and activision have made an absolute killing on this game. They don't need funding to make content.

 • That is not how businesses work. In a world where corporate taxes are filed quarterly, your P/L drives stock valuations, and you have to answer to shareholders, it is about a constant stream of revenue. Activision may have multiple streams of revenue, but apart from some residuals, Bungie only has one. If that stream were to dry up, Destiny would, as well.

 • They made a killing but also spent like $500 million on the thing. $500 million that was not properly spent on creating content but rather advertising and building hype. It would be interesting to see the revenue Bungie and activision made off this disaster. If, on release, Destiny contained the content it now has after three expansions, it would have been a complete game.

 • Bungie stated that was an operating budget, but that nowhere near that amount was actually spent - at least on the Bungie side of the coin. From Bungie COO, Pete Parsons:
“For marketing you'd have to ask Activision people, but for development costs, not anything close to $500 million,” Parsons told GameIndustry International in an interview. “I think that speaks a lot more to the long-term investment that we're making in the future of the product."
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/destiny-budget-nowhere-near-500-million-bungie-says/1100-6420802/

 • The $500 million amount you quote was how much Activision is investing in the whole ten year franchise. That is not how much theyve invested in making and marketing the 1st game and dlcs. They have already made a substancial profit on the franchise so far.

 • Although I agree with you COMPLETELY... The reason they would still need to either have microtransactions OR paid DLC is that a company like activison wouldn't give money to bungie unless the game they were making had a constant revenue stream. Or maybe I'm wrong, IDK...
