Micro Transactions aren't new... they're just new to consoles. The reality is Destiny is an "Always "On" Game" it exist and operates on live servers.... servers cost money to operate, dlc takes cash to develop... So for Destiny to remain a profitable, and yes Bungie and Activision are companies formed for the primary objective of making profit, they have to have a more stable way of generating income. Thus you have two options; Micro Transactions or Subscription Fee! Destiny isn't like your Assassin's Creeds or your GTA 5, where the majority of the game is stored on your hard drive for you to access with or without friends. It is located on servers. So large initial sales will not, and can not generate enough income to fully support a games server support for a year, yet alone two years.

  • It's going to directly effect the quality of content we get. As a consumer you need to challenge the devs rather then praise every little thing they do.

  • To be honest I'm not sure you really get it. Bungie is really only left with a few options without micro transactions... 1. They leave everything the same. No new content for several months, and that content is severely over priced in order to try and recomp the fiscal investment that was put into said lack - luster DLC, see The Dark Below and House of Wolves... 2. Introduce a monthly Subscription Fee. Coming in at the normal $15 a month, forcing players to, in all likelyness, pick between a free to play model, where they are locked out of the vast majority of content or to pay a subscription in order to gain full access. And finally option 3. Cut they're losses... simply let the game run dry until the release of Destiny 2, where you hope to retain the Hardcore fans and hopefully grab the attention of new gamers and start from scratch... which means returning Guardians would most likely have to start from scratch as well, seeing as there would be nor Eason to allow them to carry over their toons.

Left with a few options? Are you kidding? Right after a major expansion release? Dude whatever content is going to be available next year they've been working for months at this point. This is how every big game studio makes expansion well in advance. Micro transactions were always in the plan.

  • Do hou think Bungie makes all the profit? NO THEY DONT. Activision makes over 50%. its in the contract. Bungie is a smaller company than you think. ive been there. in the building. they dont get all the money. activision does. its called publisher marketing. been around for ages. you should take an economy class when you grow up

  • I know you have strong feelings about this, but it's you who doesn't get it. Destiny takes more resources to keep going than the vast majority of games out there. Moreover, I've spent more hours playing destiny than any other console game. The value is there, and I want bungie to do whatever it needs to do -- within reason -- to make the game a profitable venture that continues. And this is totally reasonable.

  • Buddy I promise you don't understand how it works. Micro transactions are harmful to the entire video game industry and the fact it's acceptable to put them in a $60 game is ridiculous by my standers.

  • Yes, we've all played this game a ton! But honestly how much of our time was spent doing something NEW? Not much. Considering how many base games they sold in Year One and the number of overpriced DLC's and expansions they sold, they have no right to be claiming they need money to develop new content.
