In the past with Destiny it was very clear that the storytelling was just lazy. They didn't have the time or money to fix everything and completely redo the story, so they just added it outside the game in little snippets. However, this story in particular for the first time, allows for an interesting way of telling a story. So if you just play the game without reading the grimoire, you have a picture of Oryx and Crota and the Hive, and it's the classic evil enemy. However, the more you delve and look into it the more you see their motivations, and they become characters, just like people in real life as the more you get to know them the more you understand them. I still wish it was done more in the game, like maybe the more and more you play a certain mission, the more dialogue comes out to reveal the actual story behind it, or maybe there are more things to scan and stuff like that. But still.

Actualy, Bungie had a rich story fully writen but the lead writer responsible for all this story quit/got fired from Bungie because of who knows what, (activi$$ion contract/plan? *atchoo) so they had to, really had to cut out and re write major parts of the story by a lot due to plagiarism issues. Just look at Destiny trailer's before launch and concept arts and compare it to the final product that was released. A pat on the back to Bungie for the TTK dlc, a lot has improved and i'm stoked for the next dlc's yet to come.
