Strangers Rifle Ascension..Point?

What's the point of ascending the strangers rifle with 25 marks? Thx

    I have no Idea all it does is upgrade it max year one damage (170). You get no quest and no other way to upgrade it. Kinda pointless as far as I know. Waste of Legendary Marks.
