The whole "ten year plan" thing is already 5 years underway...
Bungie signed a 10 year contract with Activision to develop Destiny in 2010. However I'm sure they'll keep making the game as long as we keep buying it

Bungie left Microsoft because they wanted to work on other games. Microsoft just wanted them to keep making Halo. Halo was still selling though. Sometimes developers have other visions.
