My thoughts... Destiny got a mediocre metscore on release... that metascore is far more favourable now signifying that Bungie has listened to its critics and done something to improve things. I waited for TK before going in because EVERY MMO IN HISTORY has gone through an initial phase of stabilisation before the metagame has settled into something stable. The so called paywall is nothing of the sort. Its a matter of choice whether you buy or not, and whilst I appreciate you may be sore about hard won gear losing its edge dont forget that every Warcraft expansion has rendered the previous expansions gear as obsolete on a very regular cycle . That is the price paid for progression. as the level cap rises gear will become obsolete in the metagame. thats just a fact. additionally it is your opinion that this expansion renders large amounts of content worthless. I bought the game and am playing all the previous expansions and loving them. The yearly cost in the UK of playing Warcraft is just ove £100 per year, they still stiff their whole community for the price of expansions on top of the subs cost so you could say that the actual cost is more like £130-£140 a year. so Destiny costs are favourably comparable in my opinion. You talk of eliminating light levels! and replace them with what? All MMO's need a progression dynamic of they become stagnant and stale very quickly when the level cap is hit. on any MMO once you max your level you go to rep grinding or direct gear grinding or whatever it is that gives you a feeling of progression. With respect your making the same mistake as other passionate people, you seem to feel you own the game you play and anyone making changes to it is messing with your stuff... you dont own Destiny, Bungie do and they sell access to new content for profit. read your EULA you dont own the game or content but are licenced to play it... Finally you say "requiring players to purchase DLC in order to keep raising their level is going to drive more people away from the game, not actually encourage them to stick around". This statement is oxymoronic. how can you raise a level cap without investment? More content costs more money ergo you need to charge for it... that is capitalism. I think your very passionate about the game and I applaud that. I also think you have to be a little more realistic in terms of what is possible for Bungie from a business perspective. One question have you or are you going to buy TTK?....
I waited for TK before going in because EVERY MMO IN HISTORY has gone through an initial phase of stabilisation before the metagame has settled into something stable.
Destiny is an FPS, not an MMO and not all MMOs have had to go through such experiences.
The so called paywall is nothing of the sort. Its a matter of choice whether you buy or not,
If Nightfalls were advertised with the Vanilla Game as part of the Endgame Activities included in my $60 purchase, then blocking those off entirely unless I spend more money is called a paywall. Same is true for any other aspect of the game that was advertised with my purchased product. I find it somewhat hilarious, only in Console Gaming will you ever encounter someone who thinks like you do. PC Gaming Community will utterly destroy any company that tries to do this and win. Just like when Valve tried to do it with Bethesda Modding.
The yearly cost in the UK of playing Warcraft
Warcraft is a horrible game and not something people should be using as a comparison. You should expand your horizons. I'd suggest playing some Free to Play MMOs instead. I think once you experience what winners like "TERA Online" or "Mabinogi" have to offer you'll be questioning everything that you previously thought to be true.
you seem to feel you own the game you play
I own what I paid for. Nothing more, nothing less. Any self-respecting consumer would know this.
how can you raise a level cap without investment?
Aside from the fact that there are MANY games that do this, MMOs the most prominent among them, Destiny itself was doing this as well for both the Dark Below and House of Wolves, respectively.
One question have you or are you going to buy TTK?....
My answer: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/154823358

  • Holy shit you are an idiot, read it again. In which part was it ever said he was getting a free game. Saying it isn't extortion and you pay for what you get that's rubbish, utter rubbish. I shouldn't have to pay an extra 60 dollars or suffer the consequence of my game being butchered. Look at the Witcher 3, it released 16 packs of DLC free before even ANNOUNCING paid expansions. And these are actual expansions not -blam!-ing Midget content trips. This DLC bollocks, its pushing a worrying level of extortion, and that's fûcking atrocious.

WITCHER!!! Love it, love everything about it. CD Projekt RED totally outdid themselves with that game. I'm STILL on my first play through the game and I haven't even beaten it yet. Currently looking to get the Sunstone and I JUST hit level 34 and now have ALL Mastercrafted Witcher Gear + Silver/Steel Swords from all four schools. (Bear, Wolf, Cat and Griffin) Dude, and the world? JESUS CHRIST! Pretty damn sure Velen is the size of Skyrim or damn near close to it. Then you have Novigrad which is just awesome with how many tiny details they put into it. ALL FOR $60... And Fanboys REALLY try to say Destiny is worth its cost? No... No, that argument will never hold up. At no point in time have I felt even ONCE that I was at all grinding in Witcher. You're constantly being given something new and interesting, rewarding your exploration with GOOD loot and challenges. And what sucks is I'll use Witcher 3 as an example in arguments against said Fanboys and they'll always turn around and say something like "Well, Destiny is an FPS so you can't compare both games!" Bare in mind? Most of these who say that crap ALSO have declared in other posts that Destiny is an "RPG" as well. (Bullshit) So they just change it literally to suit them whenever its convenient. =/

Your either 12 years old, have no social skills or both Either way I stopped reading after the insult so your point will I am afraid will remain forever irrelevant, a little like I fear you are. now be quiet there's a good boy. If you can't do that and you insist on replying be aware your post will not be read.

  • This was just one idea I had regarding what to replace Light Level with in terms of a progression system.
Indeed. Personally? I would've had it where everyone, Day 1, could reach a max level of 100. No Light Level of any kind, your Character Level serves as a straight up factor for your Offense/Defense versus other enemies. Subclasses would have a "Mastery Rating" to serve as a second leveling system. Example... Malphisto WARLOCK: LVL 100 -MR 34 Sunsinger -MR 34 Voidwalker -MR 0 Stormcaller (Don't have TTK on the 360) Mastery Rating and Character Level would both progress at different intervals so that players would take longer per character to reach the max possible level. Instead of unlocking perks, players would earn "AP" (Ability Points) each time they ranked up their Subclass which they could then allocate to skills. New expansions for Destiny could then add NEW skills in each Subclass Skill Tree for players to play around and come up with custom builds to suit their play style. You could also include "Weapon Proficiency" which allows players to earn exp as well for the various Weapon Types. Someone just starting out with Hand Cannons (Hand Cannon Proficiency = 0%) would have low rate of fire, greatly reduced stability and accuracy and take longer to reload. Regardless of the weapon itself. All the Hand Cannons would still have their current stats, but because the person's proficiency is non-existent, each of those attribute bars are showing red. Meanwhile, a person with 100% Proficiency with Hand Cannons would be able to use these weapons with their actual stats. There would even be Player Titles associated with it as well that people could have displayed under their names for all to see. 0% = Novice 20% = Apprentice 40% = Journeyman 60% = Expert 80% = Master 100% = Grand Master
