There's a mission you play where there an entrance to the black garden just chilling in a subway wall at Mars. So no, it's not in the traveller
-
That doesn't quite say it isn't. It merely says that gates were able to be opened from Mars. Technically those gates could be established anywhere, it doesn't essentially mean it is anywhere at all. It could exist within the Traveler, which would explain why the Vex are seeking it out being that they were 'born' within the black garden.

There's literally a whole in the wall, no gate or warp necessary

Pretty sure the black garden is in Mars, the portal is just a portal, the wall breach is pretty much were the portal took you. There was a conflux right next to that wall, maybe that was a relay?

Edited by besetbyflames: 9/28/2015 10:12:00 AMAlso take into consideration this bit.
The Black Garden is a separate dimenison not of any known space or time, and the birthplace of the Vex. A Vex portal to this location is on Mars.
It's even plausible that it could exist within the dermal region of the universe within what could be considered a pocket dimension. As if it simply stands alone and these portals are the only means of accessing it.

At that time in the game we were just understanding the vex, so everything at that time was a mystery even to ghost. You know what I'm just gonna email the lead designer, I'll get back to you on this.

Edited by besetbyflames: 9/28/2015 10:53:34 AMAwesome! PM me if you ever actually get an answer. However, like I said, I don't believe it is the Mars that we know. I understand it may have been easy to overlook when I said that because it was slightly cryptic.
Remember the fight with Atheon? How he transports you to 'Mars' and 'Venus'? It's not Mars and Venus, they are the same planet though, different periods in time. (Which you may have known.) It is quite possible that the Black Garden is nestled inside of Olympus Mons and the giant rock in the center being the Devil's Postpile. I remember quite a while ago, someone from NASA with a degree in Geology noted the similarities. The reason I brought up it not being the Mars that we know... Well, it is likely that it exists out of the guardians time and dimension. The Vex came from somewhere else entirely, as did the Traveler. So is it not likely that it isn't Mars, instead being a variation of Mars through time? That would ultimately mean that whilst it is still technically Mars, it is not what we have come to know and could be a drastically different and fuller reality for the red planet. Almost a B side that was never released where life did truly flourish and the rivers didn't dry.
Also, https://m.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2hoffq/theory_on_the_black_gardens_location/ So there's an argument for both for you. =) Then also....
It could just be a simulation.
Not saying your wrong, because I don't know that I am right. Though, I am willing to bet that the Black Garden is not in Mars or on it- at least not the Mars that we know.

According to bungie.net it says, The Black Garden is a location on Mars. Even in the mission were you go through the Mars subway, when you enter the black garden there is no teleportation, you just walk on in. So I don't see where it could be anywhere else.

The black garden entrance is on Mars, but the Black Garden itself is in a place outside of time and space. According to Dinkle during the mission.
